Quick nav upgrade upgrade question

Sorry if this is a way overdone question but im thinking of buy a 2000 M5 and it has the baby nav or half nav! I just cant do that one so in thinking of doing a swap with my current car. Is the harness the same from the early nav units so i can just swap my mk4 and 16:9 head unit?

That's not an easy question to answer.

I'm guessing the older car has the MKII Navcomputer, which can have one of two styles of harness connector, like the mk1 or the mk3, the gps unit is outside the nav unit I believe, and your TV module (if you have one) could cause aspect ration issues..

There are a whole heap of variables.. I'd start by reading up over at BMW MKII Navigation System - Bimmernav BMW Upgrades and then take a look at the cars setup and doing some internest searches with your discoveries.

Should not be a problem. The M5 is probably a MKIII if a 2000. Both items should be plug and play. You may need a new border ring aroung the wide screen if you are changing car types.

i think it depends on the build date, but if you're rocking a 4:3 screen it's a mk2. I swapped out to the widescreen on mine and never upgraded the navigation to mk4. I bought a dynavin unit instead and never looked back. Best idea ever. Dropped a G total including install and replacement amp, but sold all of the other junk i no longer needed. Best bang for your buck. Sorry to resurrect, but trying to find download links for an mk2 navigation CD for a e65 (wife's new car and she hates me that it doesn't have nav)
