Oil Change DIY for a BMW X5 4.4i with Valvetronic

Oil Change-
Do It Yourself

2004 BMW X5 - 4.4 Valvetronic Engine

Here's

what you'll need:


- 8.5qts of 5W30
Synthetic Oil

- BMW Oil Filter Element Kit

- Oil Drain Container


- Wheel Chokes

- Heavy Duty Jack + Jack Stands OR Wheel Ramps

- Torque Wrench

- 1/2in. Socket Wrench

- 24mm 12pt. socket

- 8mm Hex Screw Bit


- 6mm Hex Screw Bit

- Creeper

Lift the

X5:









Locate the

Oil Filter Container:

- Using the 6mm Hex Screw
Bit, remove the nut and drain the oil from the Oil Filter container.

Drain the

oil from the Oil Filter container:

- Using the 6mm Hex
Screw Bit, remove the nut and drain the oil from the Oil Filter
container.

- Using the 36mm 6pt.
socket OR 24mm 12pt. socket, remove the oil filter cover and
drain any remaining oil from the Oil Filter container.

Oil Drain plug:
- Using the 8mm Hex
Screw Bit, remove the nut and drain the oil from the Oil Pan.






Oil Drain

- Using the 8mm Hex
Screw Bit, remove the nut and drain the oil from the Oil Pan.



- Replace all the O rings
with the new rings

- Replace Oil Drain plug crush washer

- Place new filter into the container

- Screw in the oil filter drain plug back in to the oil filter cover
and tighten to proper torque specs (10Nm).

- Fill the oil container with a qt. of oil to prevent oil starvation
during initial start-up

- Install oil filter container back into its' place and tighten to
proper torque specs (25Nm).


- Plug the oil drain and tighten to proper torque specs (25Nm).

- Pour-in the remaining oil

- Check for any leaks...

- Check oil level

- Lower the vehicle

- Test Drive the X5!
