2006 X5world Fantasy Football League - Updated Draft Day and Time!
 

Hey guys,

Last year, we created an X5World Fantasy Football league, and we had a blast! (Do a search on "X5 FFL" and you'll find plenty of evidence to that.

So, we've decided to do it again, and again through Yahoo. Here are some basic rules:

1. (and MOST IMPORTANT!) We want to make it more interesting, so you've gotta pay to play. :D $50 bucks gets you in.

Prize Money
If we get 12 teams (see below), we'll have $600 Dollars for prize money, which we'll divide as follows: $400 for first place, $125 for second place, and $75 for third place. We may even throw in a trophy. :) :D

2. The league is limited to 12 teams, head-to-head. If we get enough interest, we may raise the limit to 14 or 15 (but not more) teams, but we may reduce the number of active players by one or two.

3. The draft is currently scheduled for August 24th at 7:00 PM eastern.

How does the draft work? I'm guessing with the 12 players, each person gets to draft a player until a full roster? I'm interested but don't know how Fantasy Football works. I will do a search but please post. Thanks.

That's exactly how it works. When a player is selected, he obviously becomes unavailable for the other teams and is "taken off the board." You should come to the draft with the list of players you want... and backups. And backups for the backups. The draft also displays the best available players for each position (based on last year's numbers).

It's neat, and very simple. You should sign up. :D

Yes, we're using Yahoo again.

The positions are:
QB, WR, WR, RB, TE, W/T, W/R, K, DEF, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

If I remember correctly, each managet gets three minutes to make a selection (Ricky, Anthony, do you remember?). If you can't be there, Yahoo will make a selection for you...

We can always try to select another draft date and time that would work with everyone. I selected a Thursday night thinking that it'd fit most of our schedules.

You set up your list prior to the draft if you cannot be there. Rank your players 1 through 500 or whatever, and the computer drafts the highest player available on your list at a position you need. You will not end up with 8 QBs for example. You'll get a good team if you prepare you list in advance.

I started to dig around the web looking at the 2006 team rosters. Talk about major roster changes. It's going to take some work to figure out some of these starting lineups. This season seems to be filled with alot more uncertainties than past seasons. I may have to break down and pick up one of those pro football preseason magazines.

Where's the reigning champ? Has broknlgs24 checked in yet?

Man, I am afraid of entering this tournament not because i will lose my $50. But I am afraid that i will win your money too easy. thats $400 right? my 4.6 kit is on my list, so this thing could work out. Haha, for real, if i play I will win because i am great with this thing. I win tons of football tournament every year. So I will let you guys alone for this. Trust me, if in case I decide to play, you guys don't stand a chance.

I'm really tempted to play but having doubts b/c I won't be able to draft on my own. I don't want to rely on the computer to do it for me. Basically there needs to be 3 more people...

Another question; how is the order of the draft going to go? Are you going to have some type of raffle or by who pays first? I like asking questions, so I know what I'm getting into...

I don't remember if you already answered this but how many total players are we supposed to have? I heard from a co-worker that we don't select defensive players rather a whole team? Thanks again.

The draft order is determined by Yahoo Sports. To hand out the prize money we discussed on the first post, we have to have 10 teams.

Anyone who hasn't play FFL in the past should first play in a "free" fantasy football league (Yahoo, Sportsline, ESPN) to get a feel for how the play works from draft through head to head games. Get a feel for the game, and come back next year. Or find an experienced partner who can guide you through the season as an advisor.

There is a weekly commitment to maintain your team by upgrading off the waiver wire or negotiating trades and setting your starting lineup each week. If you don't maintain your team and start non-active players, then the quality of the league is severely degraded and it sometimes allows other teams to win unfairly (especially if they draw a team with an inactive owner at the end of the season during crunch time with playoffs approaching). The FFL season is far more fun with everybody giving their best effort to remain competitive through the season and playoffs.

That being said, anyone who is ready to play should definitely sign up. I will have no problems taking your money. :nanana:

Juan- I'm interested in reviving the "Crazy Donkies" squad, but might have a conflict for the draft date because I think I may be out of town. I will make my final decision by tomorrow, so count me as 75% probable.

Juan, not trying to create a monster or any headaches, but
why is the draft so soon? being that there are 2 more
pre-season games left; of which, the starters play more,
don't u think it might be a good idea to wait until pre-season
is over? isn't there the possibility that some unknown might
not be selectable just yet because he's not technically on
anyone's roster; or in a more negative sense, say the #1 draft
for our league ends up w/ a season ending injury sometime
during the final 2 pre-season games. just a little food for though.

Well, we can try (operative word here) to change the draft to another day and time. The problem is getting a draft time. When I set up the league two or three weeks ago, I had my choice of draft days... now, I'm not so sure (they get taken quickly). We can try, though.

What would be the best day/time for everyone?

ah, i did not know that that's how draft dates and times
we selected. actually, that was going to be my next question.
i figured that the date and times were something that we could
all agree on in a sense, not that Yahoo had most of the control
over.

again, don't go killing urself trying to reschedule the draft. i'm
available whenever.

Later draft date is okay with me - we'll be able to get a better idea of how some of the questionable players will perform (i.e. Carson Palmer, Reggie Bush, T.O, etc.).

What's a plus league? I've always played ESPN and Sportsline, never Yahoo.

It gives you a lot more options, but the most important one is StatTracker, which gives you real-time stats of all your players (and your opponent's). Pretty cool stuff. You know how you're doing in real time. You don't have to wait 'til the end of the game to know if you're winning or losing. :D
