i got mine too, look great. i noticed the same with placement - but putting pressure on the right areas seemed to make it lay nice and flat and flush. may even need two people - one to hold and one to mark the holes for drilling. i only had a few minutes of light last night to check it out. i will be installing in the next week or so. like you, i cant wait to put on the summer wheels and clean her up a bit!

So I am hoping to install these tomorrow or Sunday. I am looking for something more than just the screws to affix them. Because of the pressure pulling them off the plastic and general long term use I don't trust the screws to hold. And if they come loose they leave useless unsightly holes. Don't want to use any glue for this same reason. I don't think bolts work as I think its impossible to get into there to tighten them.
So...Do they make any 'sink' screws that expand when placed in. I am not sure how to describe this, but I have the idea in my head. Typical right. I know I have seen such things in some application, but really have no idea. Browsing Home Depot, I will hopefully find something, but i will surely also find a few things I just have to have that I shouldn't be spending $ on now. If anyone has any brilliant ideas, don't hesitate to bring them forward. Thanks Guys, and yes, they look awesome. The etching looks amazing, the steel is of really nice quality, and the finish matches that of the 4.6 wheels. |
Asked the manufacturer about this, and he assured me the included hardware would hold fine over the long term. still skeptical. im searching for steel anchor screws that are big enough, and hopefully look like the included black ones. They expand on the inside when tightened.

Installed the running boards this afternoon! I used the black screws that were included (5 on top, 3 on the front/underside - per board). It took a bit of muscle to get them perfectly snug, but once I did and got the first screw in (I started in the middle) the rest was relatively easy!
I am VERY pleased with these. The only thing I need to do is paint the three screwheads on the front/underside of the board silver to match the color of the board - or even easier, just replace them completely with stainless steel screws - as the black heads of the included screws stand out too much on this part of the board. Other than that, its a perfect package. I dont plan on standing on these as Im a tall guy and really have no need. But my fiance used them a couple time and there was no movement at all - these things are very sturdy - much more so than I expected! I know you are all going to hate me but I dont have pics yet. The truck is filthy and I need to paint or replace those screws. But next weekend the summer wheels will be going on and I will have her cleaned up and get some pics up for you guys then! |
We don't hate you but we want those pictures....
