Anyone interested in Shadow Vehicle Emblem for "X5" we need 50.

Bimmian currently makes shadow emblems for most BMWs but not our X5s.

I spoke to Jeremy, Operations Manager, and he said if I can get 50+ interested, he may be able to get R&D to consider the product.

Most emblems are $25.

From the site....

Our shadow vehicle emblems are the perfect detail to make your stand out in a crowd, and is a great alternative to debadging.

These emblems are the same size, style and font of your original OEM letters, only instead of chrome, these are painted in a high gloss black color.

Emblems are available for most E46, E90, E92, E82, E87, E39, E60, E63 designations.

Our emblems are installed in minutes, using preapplied OEM grade adhesive. .

Can we get 50????

yeah a body shop could do it, but it would be much more expensive and a hassle

brian5 09-13-2008 08:50 AM

Krunk Man,

Sorry, had a good look at my car and I have decided that this wouldn't be right for my X5 without eliminating the other the other chrome bits on the rear emblem; the 4.8i on the sides; etc. as well. So please take me off the list...

why dont you just get the other peices debaged (the 4.8 on the sides) and black out the chrome around the rear emblem?

LivinLoudX54.4 09-15-2008 12:35 PM

Im in.

ljnlaw 09-15-2008 06:48 PM

Is there a reason why they're not doing the side badges as well? It would be cool if they made a kit for each different X (X5 + 4.6is side badges) . If it came as a kit I would order.

Weasel 09-15-2008 07:50 PM

I would love it if they had the smoked out emblems as a complete vehicle kit! I was already thinking about buying a full set of the regular chrome ones and smoking them with the spray I used on my tail lights... the 4.6is side emblems smoked would look great next to the smoked side lights.

Astroboy 12-17-2008 10:49 AM

I'm down for one

Bill Valley 01-19-2009 03:08 PM

Count me in.....

elusive 01-20-2009 03:42 PM

how many people are in for it so far? I think a shadow kit would be sick, would hate to debadge the X then get news the kit or even the rear emblem is available for a group buy!

jmweb 02-08-2009 08:48 PM

These sound cool. Let me know if you guys decide to go with another company though, bimmian customer service is non-existent after numerous emails it seems.

I'm not interested in a company who doesn't wish to provide support.

HuskerX5 02-19-2009 01:14 PM

I have done something similar using clear coat mixed with 25-35% black base. You are basically "tinting" the clear with black and spraying it over the chrome emblem/trim. The effect is really cool as it is looks like a darker looking chrome. You can also just paint them black and add "flattening" past to achieve anywhere from full gloss to satin to full flat black. These choices, of course, involve removing and painting, and the skillset to accomplish this. Of course using a quality paint is paramount, no rattle cans (IMO).
Sorry I don't have photos of any of the pieces I have done, just know that was not that tough and the results were worth it.

Weasel 02-19-2009 01:53 PM

I'm in process of putting a light smoke on headlight lenses like that, and am considering buying an extra set of emblems and hitting them up like that as well. If I feel frisky enough I'd might even re-do my tail lights like that getting rid of the rattle can tint.

chilliwilli 02-24-2009 04:11 PM

I'm late to the party but if still available, count me in for E53 4.6is

Thecleaner4.6 03-15-2009 08:34 PM

yea count me in also for the 4.6is for sure....

Weasel 03-15-2009 09:52 PM

Hey Krunk Man... how many do we have/need as far as the emblems go? (before I try it myself, as I'd prefer the professional product)

hey weasel, I'm out of this group buy, I'm selling my x5 this summer.
sorry

Weasel 03-15-2009 10:26 PM

Oh well... if it is out of the works, then maybe the thread could be closed. It will be cheap enough to try the cheap alternative anyways. I just had my modded headlight's lenses smoked professionally, and thinking about re-doing my tail lights professionally. Maybe I should bring a few emblem sets with me next time I go to the paint shop. :D

That's too bad, what are you getting next :)

Oh and it's funny that I just spotted this thread. I just received my shadow emblems in the mail (for my E46) and was gonna put them on this week. Then while driving to work this morning I was wondering if they made them for the X5.

sunilgoureddy 04-02-2009 07:39 AM

I am getting black Chrome 87 style replica wheels today and I was planning on changing the emblems like 4.4i, X5, Grill to match it to Black Chrome or to black and I just saw this post. I am all in!! Are we still doing it?

mattmak54 04-12-2009 06:45 PM

I emailed bimmian to see if they are still interested and they said they would need 100 people to sign up to make it worth their $$. Since there are only 29 people on this very old thread, i think it won't work out... too bad...

any other ideas? any other companies that do this that we could get a group buy from?

Weasel 04-12-2009 06:51 PM

If anyone here has a good airbrush kit they can do it pretty easily I'd imagine. One of the reasons I'm seriously thinking about getting a good airbrush kit.

NyMench 04-24-2009 02:54 PM

I am in for the e53 x5 if they will do the sides as well

meandmyX 04-25-2009 07:27 PM

+1, plus sides if not then im takin the 3.0i off

Tleong 05-24-2009 01:41 PM

+1.

rastaFarai 05-29-2009 02:43 PM

can they do the 4.8is too? For me i agree - its all or nothing.

LONE RANGER 12-08-2009 11:17 PM

Got a E53 4.8is 2005. Count me in.

jmsspratlin 12-20-2009 07:05 AM

I'm down. Must be for the X5 and for both sides though. jmsspratlin

How much is 25$ converted to US dollars?

I've got a rattle can paint (can't remember the name now) that is a dead match to the factory shadowline trim, which I used to paint all the chrome on my 740iL. Post what paint you use, and I'll do the same when I get back home.

Superhiro 12-21-2009 12:43 PM

I've got a pretty good relationship with Khoa at Khoalty motor group and they provide tons of after market items for E46's. I'll send him a quick PM on how doable something like this might be.

m5james 12-23-2009 06:27 PM

From your HID conversion thread, I'd guess you either work for him or get some kind of reimbursement for selling this stuff here.

Superhiro 12-23-2009 09:59 PM

Actually no, I have no affiliation with Khoalty other than being a loyal customer. I've bought many of the mods on my E46 from him.

It also seems like there aren't many aftermarket products available for X5's and since several members on here expressed an interest in these, I thought I'd contact Khoa to see if these could be procured.

I actually enjoy helping people out instead of being a negative voice on the forums and would like to see a few more mods available for fellow X5 enthusiasts.

m5james 12-23-2009 11:26 PM

That's pretty presumptuous that I'm being negative by simply asking a question. I agree, compared to the 3 series world, we don't make a scratch in comparison. I'm sure we appreciate your help, but the only things I see specifically (other than generic HID's) cross compatible between the 3 and X5 is for 3.0 owners are performance mods, which even some of those don't work based on different ECU's and framing for such mods as intakes, turbo's, etc. Your offering of HID kits (overpriced compared to other mentioned suppliers) and shadowlined badges is great and all, so hopefully you'll find something of more value down the road that would fall under aftermarket products that Khoalty can offer. Good luck.

Tequan 01-07-2010 11:29 PM

Add me that would be a nice little mod.

iMPAKT 03-04-2010 10:53 PM

Tasker 03-15-2010 05:54 PM

I'd go for the 35d on an X6.

m5james 03-15-2010 08:29 PM

You guys do realize that you're replying on a thread that basically died in 3/09 when Krunk sold his X5, and Hiro never went forward and took over the reigns. For those who want shadowed emblems, I've already suggested a suitable paint that will get the same results for about $5 and a few hours worth of your own time.

Tasker 03-16-2010 04:56 AM

So what you are saying is.
http://trephination.net/gallery/macros/timeline.gif

Never mind, I'd still like them

m5james 03-16-2010 02:12 PM

 The shadow emblems do look good on certain colors. Other than my M5 (a little rarer than some cars, and they hadn't been made for 8yrs when I bought it), I've always just deleted them so I've got less to wax around.

Tasker 03-16-2010 05:09 PM

Yeh, I've just been waxing mine now and it took ages to get the wax off from around them, might have to remove them.

I have no idea why someone doesn't fill the X5 black badge niche.

I blacked mine out, but I would prefer something a little less DIY

Chris F. 05-03-2010 08:30 AM

Isn't there companies who can re-plate our existing badges? Remember how people used to plate their Lexuses/Toyotas/Hondas in gold years ago? Why can't we do that in some sort of black?

MFL101 05-04-2010 02:14 PM

I would buy one - just saying ;)

m5james 05-05-2010 01:14 PM

...or you guys can spend $5 and paint them yourself. Just a thought.

Iluxa 09-26-2010 12:58 PM

I'd get one

LONE RANGER 05-01-2011 05:38 PM
