2011 X5 35D questions

I am new to BMW, having bought my first one only two days ago. As you all probably can confirm, it is a very nice driving SUV and comfortable. Simple question regarding our model numbers. Is the X referring to how the all wheel drive operates? and 35D referring to being a diesel?

I believe the X refers to it being an SUV- there is an X1, X3, etc. the d refers to diesel
