Single Serve Coffee Maker

OK, I convinced myself that I need a single serve coffee maker. I have been reading reviews at this website:

http://www.singleservecoffee.com/

They seem to like Bunn My Cafe, Keurig and Tassimo.

Do any of you guys or gals have one of these and what are your thoughts?

We use the nesspreso system and I have to say it is great. The coffee is held in pods so it does not deteriorate quickly and you can get lots of different types of coffee. I am in the UK.

i have the tassimo. it's pretty good, not awesome. i am partial to my cuisinart coffee maker and grinder, so i use that on the weekends. during the week i use the single cup (as i'm headed out the door). it's very convenient because i have to leave for work so early in the morning.

Two complaints: it is a lot louder than i expected, and the coffee pods aren't sold in many places...kind of a pain in the a$$ to have to go to bed bath and beyond for coffee.

I have the Senso... Have had it for almost a year - use it everyday and I like the coffee. So super easy. But I am SURE there are better tasting machines. This one was just cheap and easy.

But this is coming from a guy who loves Denny's coffee.

Got the Tassimo for my father for xmas so we drank a lot of Tassimo coffee that day. It is definitely neat and speedy. It was expensive. I think the coffee product is good, not great. I liked the latte, cappucino type products even less.

I would recommend going to http://www.coffeegeek.com/ and reading reviews as well.

:iagree: I have the tassimo and it's fairly decent. It's quick and convenient. It is a PITA having to go to bed bath just to buy the coffee pods. Sometimes I have to go to 3 different bed bath's just to find it (since some places are sold out all the time :tsk:). I wish they had more coffee choices other than Gevalia. The cappucino is OK i guess. Hot chocolate doesn't taste good.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

Regarding the Tassimo - can't you buy the coffee pods online rather than running to Bed Bath & Beyond?

E61Silver 02-01-2006 09:44 AM

I don't like Pod Coffee Makers

Yes they are easy to use.

But I find that the coffee just does not taste as full body as when you use a drip maker.

I have a Mellitta two cup drip and like the taste of the coffee.

It only costs about $30.00 to buy and you don't have to use costly pods.

Try the Gaggio Titanium series. Fantastic.
Big reserve, the dredgedrawer needs emptying after 10 grindings, and she is oh so very very cool to touch and look.

Cheers,

ILLY Beans are best!

I have a seaco classico stainless steel espresso machine. Regardless of how you preffer to drink your coffee (espresso/american) the best way to get the full flavour is to grind the beans prior to brewing. I've tried pods, they are very practical, but in no way do they surpass a fresh grind IMHO
I agree with The Big Easy, Illy beans are very good.
I grow and process the coffee I drink...
have you guys tried Guatemalan coffee???

I think growing and processing my own coffee would be a bit more work than I am willing to do for my daily caffeine fix.

Are you serious?

Wow, that looks like a great appliance! And very expensive.

In the days before the internet...I was content to go to store, ask a few questions, and bring home whatever I was looking for. Now with a world of information at my fingertips...I reseach for days to buy something as basic as a coffee maker. Furthermore, I start looking at $100 appliances and then determine that I actually may need (want) a $1500! automatied gizmo to hook me up with my morning caffeine.

Yup, I do this for a living :) I work @ a family owned business. We sell to big roasters around the world like Nestle, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts among others...

The Big Easy 02-02-2006 02:00 AM

You're spot on, JPM, beans are the best to have, my powered cofee days are long gone!

There are beans from Gutamala/Canada/States/Italy in the fridge. The smell of freshly ground coffee, is enough to send me into orbit each time and everytime...:)

Cheers,

I think my Gaggio is approacing the 1,000 cappacino mark soon!

I find that Dunkin Donuts coffee very good for everyday drinking, what coffee do they use?

Espresso Machines vs Coffee Maker

I have a nice espesso maker but don't use it every day.

A coffee maker makes coffee quick and easy.

A epresso make make a much smaller amount of coffee and requires more work.

I thought this thread was about Coffee makers not Espesso?

What is the best coffee maker ?

I think they only sell blended coffee, so my guess would be Central & South America with some African beans as well.....

In my opinon, the best coffee maker is the Technivorm. If you ever get to a roasting facility you will find this brand to be the most common brewer. Most brewers (and I am talking about you Krups and Braun amongst others) do not get the water to to proper temperature. As a result you do not get the proper extraction (grind, bean freshness, and water play a huge part and that was not part of the question) when brewing drip coffee. If you take the same coffee, same water, same grind, etc. you will find that the Technivorm will make best coffee (IMHO). This is not with out a cost, as a Technivorm is not inexpensive see http://sweetmarias.com/prod.technivorm.shtml and to me it is worth every penny.

We have the Keurig. We absolutely love it. The selection on the Website is amazing. Try the German Chocolate Cake, amazing. Every so often we just go to the website, stock up on the different varieties, they ship it and we get it in a few days.

5Xwen 02-07-2006 01:05 AM

Mission accomplished. I bought the Keurig B50 over the weekend - and I am very impressed.

http://www.keurig.com/

It takes 30 seconds to brew an excellent cup of coffee. The selection of K-cups is pretty good from Green Mountain, Diedrich, Gloria Jeans, Timothy's, Van Houtte, etc. I like a bold cup of coffee and so far my favorites are the Green Mountain Sumatran Reserve Extra Bold and Black Magic Extra Bold.

I agree that for the ultimate coffee you need to grind your own beans, however, the simplicity of pushing a button and getting a consistantly good cup of coffee in under a minute is as addicting as the caffeine itself.:) And no cleanup.

You can also get a reusable filter through Keurig if you really want to use your own beans.

Thanks.

The Big Easy 02-09-2006 05:43 AM

With the Gaggio, one button and the beans are grinded and extraction commences.

ETA: 15 seconds for the good ol black stuff!

Enjoy the Keurig!

Yes, the Gaggia Titanium looks like a wonderful espresso machine. However, I was looking for a simple coffee maker at 1/10th the price.

Hopefully someday there will be a Gaggia in my future...
