Superman's wife passed away....
Dana Reeve, wife of the late Christopher Reeve, has passed away from lung cancer. She was a lifelong NON-smoker and was diagnosed last August. Christopher passed away in October 2004. May she rest in peace.

It seems she was just diagnosed not along ago. What a shame. Atleast she wasn't sick and suffering for a long time. Rest in peace.

Jeez--I got a scare...for a moment I thought Superman was an X5world moderator.
She was a stoic woman; fought long and hard to keep her husband's spirit going strong. |
SuperGreg (X5World moderator) does not have a wife. He doesn't swing that way......;)

Oh, ya mean right-hand drive? Or as the French say, "Il marche a voile et vapeur" (He goes by sail and by steam).
I am so out of here before I wake up to flat 19"s (Not to be confused with the Olsen Twins) |

It's interesting to me that a lifelong non-smoker had lung cancer. Can it be attributed entirely to second hand smoke? Any oncologists care to enlighten us?

I doubt any oncologists would dare render an opinion as they might lose their malpractice insurance...As explained to me by my wife, who got a fairly rare form of cancer (Rhabdomyosarcoma) as a teen, some people just have a genetic pre-disposition to forming cancerous cells. Cancer, in lay terms, is essentially the unregulated growth of cells normally controlled by genetic signals. Cancer research revolves around the quest to regulate cell formation and growth via signalling pathways. That's why fruit flies are used to study cancer--their cells can mimic some of the pathway signalling found in humans. Environment (pollution) or lifestyle (smoking) can trigger these abnormalities. In Ms. Reeves case, stress could have been a triggering event and the "genetic misfiring" showed up in her lung tissue. In other people, their signalling pathways are rock solid--my neighbor who just passed on; born in 1922, smoked every day of his adult life...never got cancer. B/t/w, nice avatar--120 shakes a minute.

Sad, as it was when Chris Reeve died...
no fawning fan, or oneupmanship here, but he had seats across the aisle from us at the old Circle in the Square theater in NYC for several years. We made almost all the plays each year on our subscription, he only made some. A couple of casual "Hi's" and nods as one got to "know" their regular vicinity seat mates. He brought Dana several times, dating and, then after they were married. We were not buds, but we had a cocktail together at intemission and we recognized each other, (he more recognizable than I.) With all that skill and talent and strength...the Eternal Footman finds us all, and usually when one is least expecting it. RIP to C&D. |
