So what happens when you do a search for "Bulgarian Mafia"?

Ah, well I will take the time to fill in this information, being a native Bulgar. :)

1) There are multiple very strong mafias in Bulgaria. They like to shoot each other, and often like to overtake cars in the oncoming lane. They rarely make it though, cuz in BG, we have a higher "casualty" rate from driving accidents than you guys in the US are losing soldiers in Iraq. No joke - fact.

2) The government is, at times, cleaning up the mafia by emplying the secret service. Again, no joke. That's why only "key" members seem to die.

3) Oh yeah, all of the mafia specialize in weapons smuggling from Turkey. They then resell the stuff. We're talking about submachine guns and pistols primarily here. Some grenades too.

I hear Sofia is magical in the Springtime...I think we'd feel right at home.

Grenade, anyone?

Bavarian , this is a new insight to charming Eastern Europe.

Well you're probably picturing random guys walking around with AKs now, like in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This is not the case at all. All of these mafia are really quite "underground" and transparent. But if find an awesome hotel, or high-class restaurant, or a German car dealership, guess who the owner is? Oh, and there are over 10 casinos across the capital.

The mafia there like the BMW X5, Audi A8L, Porsche Cayenne and Jeep Grand Cherokee. You'll never see one without 5% tinting, bulletproof glass, and a bodyguard driving it for the mafiaman. Oh, and they never stop moving for red lights, stop signs or any such other thing.

I'll tell you this though. One of the things I love about my home land is how vehicles have the right of way over people. Not by law of course, but this is the way it is. Even cops drive like this. So even if it's green, you better check before crossing the street. I wish here in Canada it was the same way. How is a man supposed to make a damn turn with all those pedestrians always starting to cross just when you think you've found a gap? The way I see it is...pedestrian versus SUV...160lb versus 4200lb. You pick the winner folks!
