... Professionally Boned....

....As some of you may know, my union (Local 600, International Cinematographers Guild) recently voted on a new contract offered by the AMPTP (producers), in which my job classification (Camera Operator) was in jeopardy of being eliminated....16 of the 18 unions voted for ratification of the contract....I'm now out of a career, one I invested over 25 years in (18 of them as a union operator)....over 22,000 hours of work down the drain....:banghead: .....F**k me....Any body need a mod installed??....I bake headlights for food.....:tsk:

Everybody always lands on their feet after the shock of change wears off. Don't know enough about the nuances of the biz, but doesn't this just affect big union features?

mdk5623 04-06-2006 11:26 PM

....Features and commercials, both of which I've made what's left of my career on....Show me a DP who's not going to want to operate his own camera....Not many....'A' camera operators, of which I was one, are hurt the most....

Who usually is the person who hires you, the producer, director, or DP?

mdk5623 04-06-2006 11:35 PM

....DP 95% of the time, producer, 5%....

There are no words to express sorrow for the loss of your livelyhood. I hope you find something better of course. Just to clarify Your job classification (Camera Operator) was eliminated? Your the guy who sits behind the Panavision Camera? Who's operating it if not you?

Man that's rough, it will work out. Look at it as a push in a different and better direction. Keep the half-full approach.

Sorry to hear about your job. Is this a chance for you to do something you will love?

MDK: you didn't get that far or, skilled in your career by
being a slacker/low rent individual.

There has to be venues for a person with your skills and eye
and contacts.

Chill and reflect for a few, but get back at it and see what
you can shake outta the trees. I wish you well and Good Luck, M.

PS: that line of yours about baking headlights had me Lol!
