bad news...

I was backing out of my garage and my dad's minivan was parked next to me and i was reversing straight out until i turned a lil and i hit his van.. nothingr eally happened to the van but my x got messed up a lil. its a minor dent towards the left front side panel next to the hood and im going to have to go to the stealer to see what he can do for me... ill post pics later. but i hope he can just pull out the dent and everything will be alright but now i hear some weird noise when i start the car but idk ill keep you guys posted.. my parents are gonna kill me lol. i probably cant drive the car for a while now... and i just got my license last thursday some luck i have i think i got jinxed cuz of jealous friends and stuff...:tsk:

fln8tive 04-08-2006 10:52 PM

Don't think of yourself as jinxed, think of it as a cautionary lesson in the physics of sheetmetal. It can all be fixed.

Juanted 04-08-2006 10:52 PM

Sorry to hear that, Amit. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Juan

Sorry to hear about your accident, but there's no need to invoke the F word. This board is not overly sensitive, but there seems to be a consensus that we want to keep this board safe and user friendly.

Don't go to the stealer - they'll charge you BMW labor rates to do the repairs. Seek out a quality independent body shop and make sure they are able to match the black sapphire paint.

sorry about that i edited it and removed the f word. yea or maybe im going to try to report it on the insurance as hit and run i dont know it is up to my parents. all i know is im def not allowed to drive it for a while.. thanks for the confidence booster.

p.s does any one know of a good quality body shop around NJ.

asawadude 04-08-2006 11:07 PM

Thanks Amit. I'm as foul-mouthed as anyone I know, but this is probably the nicest board I've been on ever. People here are very laid back and respectful.

Somebody help out Amit with a good body shop.

Hit and run?!? From your driveway?? Call the insurance company, tell them what happened, and get it fixed. OR, don't call them, and pay to have it fixed.

Juan

mdk5623 04-08-2006 11:10 PM

Amit...reporting an accident as a hit and run when it is not is called insurance fraud....tread carefully, young grasshopper......

at4689 04-08-2006 11:15 PM

if i told the insurance company the truth would they pay a little for it or would they just not be able to do anything.. and my insurance will probably go up if they pay for it right ? ...idk im new to the insurance thing and all just recieved my license.... thanks guys

Juanted 04-08-2006 11:20 PM

Yes, your premiums may go up... You're better off paying for it without involving the insurance company.

mdk is right, by the way, insurance fraud is FAR, FAR worse than higher insurance premiums, and can include jail time. Don't do it. Good luck.

Juan

mdk5623 04-08-2006 11:25 PM

....Well, first you have this thing called a deductible.........ah, youth....ask Dad like this:...."...Dad? What's our deductible??...Jimmy next door's deductible is a thousand dollars.....is that why he hasn't fixed the dents in his car??....."....."I'm confused.....can you explain it to me...."....this approach always worked for me.....

at4689 04-08-2006 11:25 PM

k i wont do it and will just pay it off myself.. thanks for teh advice guys... not doing the insurance ffraud thing . and dont want my premiums going up they are so high already... thankss

Michelle 04-08-2006 11:29 PM

Don't worry, Amit...I'm 25 and still have no clue how the whole insurance thing works except that I have to have it and every 6 months I pay a little less!

LOL thanks :) You should go to the DC meet in May. Think you'll be allowed to drive in 5 weeks?

Sorry to hear. NJ has highest insurance. Don't know any body shop in NJ but in White Plains and CT. Some body shops ask for your insurance company name so be careful.

at4680,

check this website www.dentwizard.com and it might save you money plus you don't have to worry if the color will match. i've tried it before and i was pretty impressed and satisfied with the work.

Glad they will let you drive it again soon. My daughter drove my RR after she got her license, but too much car got her into trouble by folding in the trunk of a Camry at a stop. $9000 damage to the Camry, $140 to the RR. After that I got her a 4 cylinder 626 plus I had to get her off my insurance it went from $4200 to $7900 (even though she was driving the 626 ) a year then AAA refused to include her the next year.

Be careful and be aware, this driving thing takes time. I've been driving for over 20 years and I still learn new things driving all over the world.

Wagner 04-09-2006 09:00 AM

don't you hate it when your the cause of the mis-fortune. I did the same thing the the front pass. bumper cover on my X. Still waiting to get it fixed. :(

jwalsh22 04-09-2006 11:04 AM

yeah, hitting stuff yourself sucks. i ran into a dumpster about three months ago and i'm still waiting for someone to rear end me so the insurance will cover it. insurance fraud is definitely something you don't want to play around with, you wouldn't be driving for a much longer time because you'd be in jail. good luck.

yea thanks i have an appointment wiht dent wizard for friday and im gonna see what they can do about it . will keep you informed . thanks

X5Flyboy 04-12-2006 04:02 AM

That 1st dent really crushes you. A reminder that driving requires your full attention. Fortunately, sheetmetal can be fixed. I wish they taught more about defensive driving. About recognizing dangerous situations (in this case the entire state of NJ) About what to do if this, or that, happened in front of you. You see what happens to other drivers. What would(or could) you have done to avoid what happened to them. The list goes on and on, and after 40yrs of driving, I'm still seeing new crazy things some people do behind the wheel. If you're in central NJ, you may see me tooling around in May in my new X5. It will be the only one in NJ with (R,W,B) Idaho plates. I usually have an eye out for other X5s. Be seeing you and Good Luck.

at4689 04-14-2006 10:19 AM

thanks , yes so i went to dent wizard this morning they said they dont work on dents that are right on the fender... sooo they wont do it damnit. im taking it to the dealership in 1 hour or so ... keep you guys updated

Michelle 04-14-2006 10:24 AM

Oh that sucks! Good luck with the stealers!

SANguru 04-14-2006 02:31 PM

don't take it to the dealership... they will just add their markup to it and just send you down the street to the body shop. Cut out the middle man and go directly the body shop. They will probably quote you a new panel, paint & labor. It's going to be over a grand for sure since the labor itself to fix the fender is is greater than just slapping on a new one but still 5-8 hrs at $100+ an hour .

that will be a lot.. if you notice to the bottom, there will be paint work as it is scratched. Your clips on the bumper are also broken which means possibly a new bumper. In case you haven't figured it out by now.. BMW/any german car body work is expensive. What seems deceiving minor is always expensive.

That is not small. Probably cheaper to get new fender which is $233. Check prices here . Painting can be another $200 or more. Get an estimate from a local body shop. Members here can suggest a local body shop.

your talking about being jinxed.....1st time i was driving down this little road near my house and the paper bag rolled out from the yard and bam lots of noise thuds etc i get out turned out it was a rock in the bag how weird huh? well i had only 1500 miles at the time and the front tire rant it over the coner and bouched it under the right rear and the rock ripped the tire open...2nd time i was on the highway and i saw some pple in front of me changing lanes and then i heard it a thud and i didnt think of it much. I got home i look out and the same spot as your dent except mine was right near the end of the light and it was too late to write down teh flat bed trucks number down and 3rd time, it was a rainny day and i was ready to drive across this 4 lane road and i was stopped near a stop signt and i went across to find out that the road was 5 feet to the left of my position i swerf and i miss the first big commercial sign and then bam i see a small brick structure comming up and i was like OHH F>>>> me and of coures i hit that and demolished what ever that small builing was....turned out it was a mail shed thinggy any how 4th time after i got the car all fixed up spent about 6,000 doing it. my mom drives it to a church cookout thing and she gets back and the next morning on the right side looks like just like ure bumper its a bit scuffed up and thank god and knock on wood that has been the end of my bad luck street. So, dont worry things will be back to normal before you know it.
