I was in a wild chase today
I was so pissed today. I was in my BMW 740il, waiting at a stop light. All of a sudden, bang, I got rear ended. I got out of my car and saw this minivan with a woman driver sitting on my bumper. I told her we need to exchange insurance info. She told me to pull over to the curb where it is safer and we can do that. I pulled over and she just jams on her accelerator, taking off.
I took off in pursue thinking WTF!!! Her minivan is no match, caught up to her at the next stop light. Told her to pull over, she rolls down her window and said it's no big deal. I told her to pull over so we can look at the damages. She goes right, over the curb and made a right turn. I took off after her. She then whips into a U-turn, but not enough room. I swung my car around, and she almost backs into me again. Damn, that woman! She then went into the oncoming lane, the other cars stopped and I went right after her. This went on for about a good 10 minutes. I was on her tail, she then went over another curb and I followed slowly because I didn't want to wreck my alignment. She then jumped another curb, at which time I said it's not worth it. Needless to say, I was pissed. Drove to the police station and reported the hit and run. The license plate does not match the car and so that was the reason why she was running away. My car just have some minor scratches on the bumper, not a big deal. But I was just pissed at her for not stopping and at least saying sorry. Some people! Sorry for the venting, but it was kind of fun tearing through the Streets of San Francisco and happy that I didn't hit anyone. |
that sucks John.. sorry to hear about that.. I hope they catch her sorry ass.

I hate to ask this question because of the assumptions that will be made...I'm just curious: What nationality was she/did she appear to be? |
i would've continued to chase her down... its obvious she was intent on trying to drive off... go ahead and break the law like she did, draw more attention so that police would engage. she can't outrun a radio... and you have a perfect reason why you were breaking traffic laws...
|
sorry to hear that, but i kinda visualize a scene from the transporter while i'm reading it..,:)

That sucks! You reacted like any one of us would have. Good job of not crashing into anyone or anything. Why didn't you get on your cellphone to report is as you were in pursuit? When they stopped her she would have been hooked up for a few things and booked with a short jail stay prior to being released pending court. Her van would have been towed and impounded for 30 days and would have cost here a couple G's to bail it out. Sorry, I can't help but think of what should have been done to her.

Well, SFPD will be looking at vans of the same description. There aren't too many places to hide unless this woman high tailed it out of town.
So did you get some air under your 740i ala Frank Bullitt? |
Please tell me that during all this you got the plate number...

I just hate people that lies to me. I would have let it go otherwise and let it go as a parking dink. We get lots of those in SF. Quote:

I had a teenage girl try that to leave a scene once. This girl backed out into my 1967 Mustang (of course right after I had replaced both chrome bumpers). Then she attempted to wave as if everything was fine. Well that wasn't going to fly so I actually cut in front of her and blocked her car in. Of course I was 18 so I didn't really think things through that much :)
|
Actually I got her plate number and it doesn't match the car. I was on the phone with SFPD during the chase and they advised me to stop pursue because I might get into an accident I doubt that they are going to do anything. Insurance said they will cover the bumper under the uninsured motorist provision, so everything will be fine.
Sounds like you kept your cool and everything will work ok. Good for you! |
The woman had 2 small kids strapped in car seats? How completely sad...

That and I watched both movies (1 & 2) today... :) |
u need to be careful in those sort of things- people will do all sorts of things to us BMW folk and some will shoot back- glad u are ok. (Yes i am a hypocrite- did the same thing when a commercial vehicle sideswiped my car and scratched my new rims on my X5- and I am in DC- chased their azz all over DC on 395 to 295 and was calling the company number and tried their boss had to get them to pull over- unfortunately their English was horrible but I am fluent in Spanish so I cussed them out in English AND SPANISH!)
|
wow, that sucks. I hate it when people try to avoid the consequences of their actions, especially by running away like that. When I first got my X someone backed into it in a parking lot and started to drive off. I ran up to the car and they refused to acknowledge me, so I sat on their hood until the police came. I knew they wouldn't take off with me on the hood, and if they did, I'd be soooooo pissed that they would have had another huge problem on their hands. People need to respect those who take care of their cars and are careful with them, and not drive off after THEY f*** up!
|
That's horrible! And to think she had children in the vehicle, just unbelievably irresponsible of her. Thank goodness you're not injured, and that your insurance will take care of it.

Similar thing happened to me. I was driving on the highway when some kid in a honda civic riced out beyond comprehension. Cuts me off and gives me the finger. So i give him the finger and think nothing of it. So we are driving and an exit was coming up. He swerves at me and throw a metal pipe about 18ins long and 1.5inches thick at my X5 and hits my bumper. Then he punches it and flys down the exit. So i got in pursuit. It was a long offramp and very curvy. The kid had it sideways and almost lost it wjile i was on his bumper totally relaxed. I wasnt even pushing it. I falled him for a few miles and we passed a cop. The cop comes after both of us. So i pull over and the kid kept going. So im telling the cop the story and what do you know the kid comes back and comes out of the car saying that i was chasing him trying to run him off the road. Needless to say. The cop believed me and arrested the kid towed his car. He gave me a warning for driving to fast and then thanked me for catching the kid. He said the kid had a warrant out for drug possesion.

Police found the guy whose plates was on the car, but he said someone stole it a few days ago. Don't know if it's a story or what. But I think unfortunately that's all the cops are going to do. Oh well.......
Thanks for all the support!!! |
?
maybe it was britney spears... o i forgot she doesn't use car seats

Glad this unfortunate incident ended without anyone getting hurt, and your insurance company will take care of the damage.
My quick story... Someone rear-ended my wife's car in a fast food drive-through window line last month. He apologized and gave my wife his cell phone number - telling her to call him and get the insurance information etc. We called him several times leaving polite messages, and he never returned the call. This went on for 2 weeks. We called the police and they said they couldn't do anything without a police report or licence plate number. The fast food joint didn't have security cameras. We had several witnesses, however, nobody could remember the make/model/licence of the car. Our insurance company told us we needed to pay the deductible because we didn't have the info on the other car. Arrarrgght! I found out the guys name from a contact at Verizon cellular. I googled his name and found out where he lived and his home telephone number. I called his house and told him we filed an insurance claim and a police report. He called back 10 minutes later and apoligized - and gave us his insurance information. I got the insurance claim resolved the following day. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who will try to take advantage of you - and if they can get away with something - they will. |
