Ordered the 330

After much mental masturbation, I ordered the 330i today. I went back and forth wringing my hands over the various engine options that are being speculated about. We know the 335 twin turbo is coming but the fate of the 325 and 330 are still up in the air. The likely scenario is a 328 and the 335. BMW does not want to offer too many choices in the 3 series.

Ultimately, I decided that the 330 will be best because it is available now, it is a proven engine whereas the 335 will more than likely have problems as it is brand new and introduces two turbos, the cost of the 335 will be a significant bump over the 330, the 335 will only be offered as a coupe until probably next year, and since I'm leasing, the worry about what to do with a defunct model is not my problem. When it's done, I turn it back in. I ruled out a CPO E46 M3 for a couple of reasons: It would be an '02 or maybe an '03 to fit my budget, and it is really nice to get something brand new.

The order went in for a Black Sapphire/Terra Leather, Step, Sport, Premium, Nav, Comfort Access, PDC, and folding rear seats. It is a Week 17 production so it should be here in early June. There was one coming off the boat this month in the exact same combo except it does not have folding rear seats and instead has heated seats. I have no need for heated seats where I live but I do need folding rear seats with the ski bag for my hockey sticks and larger cargo. So the waiting begins. No money has exchanged hands yet either.

I already have three mods planned. :D I just can't leave it alone.

Good luck man,

I guess were just going to have to wait and see what BMW is going to do with the engine dilemma in the next few months...

Oh well, 330i is an awesome car anyways, and you'll enjoy it !

X5 Sport 04-18-2006 11:32 AM

For $5 bucks do we get an 8x10 glossy of the car with the driver's Sharpie scribble?

Bet you are excited, nice color combo!

rayxi 04-18-2006 11:44 AM

Congrats on finally pulling the trigger. Are you going to start posting on E90Fanatics now?

R8DX5 04-18-2006 12:09 PM

Congrats

I just took my 330cic out of winter storage and the top goes down today.
Last fall the service manager told me to have the oil changed after the storage and the dealer did it for free. Its a great vehicle, have fun.
Fred

Kewl X5 04-18-2006 04:57 PM

Congrats Kevin. The 330i is an awesome car and you'll have plenty of fun with it. Can't wait to see it!

Nice color combo! The terra is similar to the cinnamon in our M3.

PersonaNonGrata 04-18-2006 05:31 PM

Thanks fellas. It's been a while since I ordered a new car. The excitement and anticipation of a new BMW is something else. :excited: I am quite sure that the 335 will be great but not until they have gotten over some bumps and the sedan won't get the 335 until next year.

I'm excited about the new navigation system and the comfort access is so cool event though it promotes laziness. Never having to put a key in the door or the ignition is lazy but very trick. It'll be an adjustment going to a smaller car but I'm keeping the X5 so I can always trade with the wife for my X5 fix.

I'll be cruising the E90 sites but they will NOT be getting Freaky Friday. That is an xoutpost.com exclusive.

Verbalkint 04-18-2006 07:40 PM

Congrats, Kevin.

Very  Enjoy. :beerchug:

DINANM3 04-18-2006 07:46 PM

Congrats, Kev! As we spoke about on the phone- my frame excludes me from ever owning one of those, but when I come to Cali, I expect a test drive!

She's looking forward to driving the X5. She asked me tonight what her first mod to the X5 should be. I told her a 4.6is spoiler kit or aluminum running boards. :p I think she was yanking my chain. :tsk:

It'll be weird to see her driving my X5.

Yup! $500 for the 3ers. :boogie: Between the $1000 from the X5 and the $500 for the 330 I'll have paid for almost 40 years of membership. Actually, I have earmarked it for mod money. :D

SANguru 04-19-2006 03:08 AM

hey u know, if you change your order to an M5.. you get what is it.. $1000 or $1500?? ;)

Funny you should say that because the wife got an offer today for a new job that pays quite a bit more. Just minutes ago I told her that I called the dealer and changed my order to an M5. :D

Damn! You're in France??? Formidable mon ami!

I didn't know you were getting an E90. We had talked about doing ED on this one but I think we have to leave it for next time. That is one thing that I must do before I kick the bucket.

I'm really glad to hear that your car is running well and is so well built. I'm even more excited to get it now. :driver:

asawadude 04-19-2006 03:22 AM

Congratulations Kevin! Great selection of color choices and options. If I were to order a 3 series, I'd very likely end up with a duplicate of your new car. If I can convince my wife to drive the X5, maybe one day soon, I'll be joining you in new car ownership bliss.

Oh yeah - I know you have mods planned, but don't forget the THREE Must-Do Mods:
1. Gold Plated Valve Stem Caps
2. Flux Capacitator
3. Bandana on rear view mirror

kirkX5m 04-19-2006 05:14 AM

oui, dernier jour a paris, i am leaving in a few hours ...
will miss the 330 while its in transit...will see it again in 6 weeks. here are some pics and thank god its a nice day out today
you HAVE to do ED, thats all im gonna be doing from now on, its so much fun and people around here dont see new bmws around much, so its funny to see everyone gawk at the car...ha ha ha. i got pulled over by the german polizei in munich once and the french CRS once also...they thought it was weird that the plate was german with temporary plate (expires april 25 2006)
