RANT: Junk mail
Arrrrghhh...Is there anything you can do to reduce or eliminate junk mail. I am so tired of sorting, shredding, ripping this garbage to pieces. Freaking credit card offers up the ying yang. Where's all the environmentalists. Don't they know how many trees are killed so I can rip this stuff up.
OK I'm done now. |
Yeah...tell me about it. I get my recycle bin filled up faster than my trash bin! What's worst is that I get lots of junk flyer toss in my front porch every single day...there ought to be a law against that! Isn't that like leaving trash in someone's land?

I don't care so much about the flyers, pick them up and ditch them. But all these pre approved credit offers, anything for that matter with your name on it. All you hear about is identity theft and they just keep sending this stuff. I can't be bothered going through it and ripping, shredding everyday. Reason for the rant. Guess what I did on this lovely rainy Sunday.

Quite happy with it and its free! It has a junk and unapproved section allowing you to Block and Bounce the e-mail back to the sender. Any e-mails that you Block ,will in future not appear on your INBOX but will go straight to your DELETED items. BTW,it also great notifiers. Its pretty cool. |
She isn't talking about e-mail......she is talking about postal service mail, you remember that...the old paper stuff that comes in the box near your house....

You can call...
1-888-567-8688 [1-888-5-OPTOUT] Credit bureaus sell banks lists of consumers who meet certain pre-screened credit criteria. These lists result in 5 billion credit offers mailed out annually, or an average of 8 per household per month. Under a law known as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you have the right to opt-out of receiving these offers. Just my friendly consumer notice for the day. |
this one might also work?

Here's something you can try and it worked for me. Open the junk mail, and on the reply slip (the part with your name and address that you'd mail back) write: "No such person. Remove from mailing list immediately!" Then stuff everything they sent, including the original envelope, into the postage-paid reply envelope and mail it back. Believe me, they won't want to keep paying the postage for this so they'll take you off the list in a hurry. Doing this put an end to 75% of my junk mail in about three months.

This is one i agree with. Other than that shred shred shred. Lots of fun.

As somebody mentioned earlier, you can stop the pre-approved credit card offers by
They also have a web site equivalent to do online. Can't find it right now. EDIT: found it https://www.optoutprescreen.com/ Make sure you select permanent opt-out. |

I hate both hard and email junk mail! |
If you happen to subscribe to LifeLock (identity theft protection service), they have a component that cuts down junk mail. Since I signed up with them last year, my snail junk mail has dropped dramatically.
Also, don't forget companies sell your address to others. You order something from one, and 50 others end up with your address, to mail you catalogs for similar items. |
