BMW V5 specs
 
The June 2006 issue of Road and Track has some specs and a picture of the BMW V5. It's the same picture posted by LemansX5 from the German magazine website.

Here's a synopsis:

It's a 5 door with 3 row seating using 5 series and X5 components. Length is 190 inches, longer than an X5.

Base engine is the 3.0 I6 valvetronic engine with 255 HP. The optional engine is a 4.8 V8 with 375 HP. There will be a choice of gearboxes - manual or automatic. Article makes no mention of SMG, nor does it specify if the manual is available with the V8, hopefully it will be.

Expected sales: 60,000 per year.
Expected competition - the Audi Q7 and Mercedes R-Class.

The issue also has a full test of the Z4M roadster and an announcement of a race-ready Z4M coupe (400 HP, 2640 lbs, $300,000).

I'm confused - Is the V5 considered part of the E70 line or is there another designation for this vehicle?

I'd be very surprised at the 60,000 units per year...
the mkting types must be using a crazy 8 ball for
sales projections.

Different series. The BMW product road map that has been floating around shows the V5 as an F? body. BMW is running out of E designations, as they are up to the E93 for the convertible 3 series. The first F series are the F01 (7xxi) and the F02 (7xxiL). The next 5 series are the F10 (sedan) and F11 (touring).
