Kicked the tires on the new GL Benz

Swooped in the MB dealer this morning and checked out the new GL.

Better looking rear end than the pictures suggested, very nice exhaust pipes. Doors are large and thud nicely when shut. The upholstery felt cheap and the third row seats were the smallest I've seen. If you are over age 7, forget about it. One piece tailgate had the soft-touch latching, but the shape of the door opening was weirdly rounded off--my guess is the X5 has a taller cargo space. There was no more than 18" of cargo space between the rear hatch and the rear of the third row seats--it is no Tahoe.

Wheel, dash, etc looked nice. Center console grab bars were a nice touch. From the front, the car looked a tad cluttered, and from the side it did, I'm sorry to say, look a lot like either a Honda Pilot or a tall Pacifica. The "C" pillar really draws attention to itself.

No doubt a nice solid vehicle, but I would rather have their G-Wagen or an S500.

I saw one here in Knoxville on the road 2 weeks ago.......looks like an oversized ML. I want to look at one close up though, just to see the interior...........

It looks absolutely horrible. The G-wagon was way overpriced, but it still was a very cool and unique ride

Mercedes has always been luxury first and a joy to ride second. I think the interior is beautiful but it probably drives like a school bus. You could get the same amenities in an escalade, tahoe, etc. but they won't drive like an X.
