New Toy

So excited. I have alot of manual reading to figure out how it all works. I'm using a 75-300mm lens from an older 35mm SLR until I find the lens I'm looking for. Pics to come

Nice camera. What caused you to pick the Nikon?

Hope you have budgeted for all the things you will now find you need. Lenses. Maybe a flash. New software. Lots of memory cards (although they have gotten much cheaper). More hard disk space. Some more memory in the PC. A better backup for what is on the hard drive. A better monitor.

You may have a lot of that already, but I found that my D70 caused me to get out the credit card in quite a few of those areas.

Have fun with it!

Already have a great PC with ~650gigs of HD space along with a monitor
Already have some older Nikkor lenses (but definitely am looking for new ones build for the DSLR
Flash to come (maybe some studio lights for fun in the future)
Have the software
hi speed 2 gig mem card
Tons of excitement

I decided to go with the Nikon since I'm more familiar with their products and have some lenses that fit it as well. I also liked the dpreview of the D200 more. Bottom line is that I'm a fan of Nikon. :)

I'll play around with it this weekend and post up some stuff.

You might want to get the new 24-120mm VR lens. I love the Vibration Reduction feature (something that Canon has had for a while).

I've had the D70 for awhile now and this D200 is the next camera I hope to save up for. Very nice camera.

I was just looking at this camera last night and now can't decide between the Canon 5D or the D200....I keep hearing all different things between Canon vs. Nikon and which is better.

Ignore the Canon vs. Nikon debate. If you have Canon lenses buy Canon. If you have Nikon lenses buy Nikon. If you don't have lenses of either brands buy the one that feels the best when you pick it up, has an interface you can live with. In that segment of the market they're all good products.
