interesting Z4 fact
I was told by the factory tour guide of the Spartenberg plant that the BMW Z4 pipes muffler sounds directly into the cabin of the car so that the driver gets pumped up.
|
Yes indeed. There is a tube that runs under the driver's side rocker, AFAIK. There is a brand new car that does the same thing. I can't remember what it is right now dang it!
|
Engine sounds, not muffler sounds.
It is a tuned pipe, designed to ensure that the driver hears the music of the inline six engine. A common mod is to take the foam baffle out of it, effectively turning up the volume inside the cabin. No, I haven't done that on mine. Jeff |
Is that right? I might have to test drive one of those :dunno: |
That sound port has been there since the first Z4...
the one I drove, early on, sounded kinda numbingly blah. I suspect they have improved it since then. BR,md |
I haven't driven an early one, but shifting at 6000 in second gear yesterday, it sounded fantastic. 28-30C here all week, convertible weather is back.

I miss my Z4 on days like This :(, I wasn't all too impressed with my Z4 unfortunatly, I REALLY want the new E90 convertable or the Volvo C70
