we go tomorrow to an ACVIM. over the weekend,
we tried to keep him as inactive as possible, but
when a 145lb. rott wants to chase planes and bark
at anything that comes near the house, it's a
workout keeping him from doing so. otherwise, he
seemed to be responding to the pain medicine well.

With the specialist consult you will be better armed to deal with matters. Rimadyl (one of the NSAIDs, you are probably using this) and TLC will do fine right now.
