I would never buy a beginning production car. Too many bugs that need to be worked out.

I thought long and hard about this too, but I had a 99 e46 when they first came out and it had very few problems. Personally, I think BMW actually cares so much for their cash cow 3 series, they have to get it right. For the other models, I'm not too sure.

I've always thought BMW and Hondas made the best engines (longevity), and I'm hoping this first US twin-turbo will continue the streak.

You are right about that. The 3 series is the most reliable BMW made. Partly because it gets technology after its been tested in the 7 and 5 series. But also because BMW sells alot of 3 series and wants to keep those buyers happy. I think like 45% of all of BMW sales are 3 series models.

Also a series and its price bracket have many more competitors than say a 760. So they have to keep an owner of a 3 series happier or they will just go buy a lexus or infinito or the tons of other cars in that class. But some one that buys a 7 Series doesnt even have a third of those choice. Basically its a 7series and Sclass or an A8. thats it there is nothing else to choose from

Hey, for we BMW un-literati, what's that lens thing
in the lower right center of grill?

NEway, fine car and GL, mD

I found out that the lens is for active cruise control, something I didn't want. For those who don't know, when in cruise control, the sensor detects the amount of distance between you and the car in front of you, and adjusts speed accordingly.

Personally, I use CC a lot, but don't think I wanna try this yet. The lens is so low to the ground, what if its covered in mud, and it doesn't work!!!

P, That was my suspicion after I looked at it harder and thought about
it...hey, it's the GizmoRace all the car mfg'ers are caught up in.

Not sure I need that to tell the cruise to back off either, but this is
the multi-task while driving, age.

Enjoy the wait for your fine new ride, P! :)
