Life after Van Halen

I saw a clip on the news this morning of David Lee Roth on the tonight show. He looks like a lounge singer. All he needs is a bad suit.

It sure looks like 3 decades of boozie, chasing women, and doing insane calisthentics on the stage has taken its toll on him - the dude looks plain worn out.

I got a chance to watch Van Halen frequently before they were signed to a record contract back in the early 70's, back when they used to play in Pasadena at the old Handlebar. Best band to come out of L.A. ever. Better than the Eagles who used to play at the Whisky and the Troubadour. Nobody could both entertain and mesmerize a club like Van Halen and Roth.

If DLR and EVH could ever get over their personal issues and finally do a reunion tour, I'd be in line for tix. This I would have to see.

I agree - Eddie plays a mean guitar! But David Lee did not age gracefully. At least he did something with his hair (or lack of). Van Halen just wasn't the same with Sammy. Not a bad sound, just not David Lee.

I remember reading a report on the web last year that DLR was moving from LA to NY to take...EMR classes and was going to work saving peoples lives...

I feel sorry for David

He did move to NY and took over the Howard Stern slot at 92.3 KROCK. Not sure about the EMR thing. His show was so bad they cancelled it in 4 months. It's such a shame that a talent like DLR is just going to waste. There is no one out there who fits so well with Eddie and the boys better than DLR.

I guess you have not seen ED then...he looks like a dried up old man.

Regardless....Diver Down in 1982 was one of the best shows I have ever seen, I saw them at the Philly Spectrum...I have seen plenty of bands live and still think that they used to put on the best show (when David wasn't too drunk and remembered the words).

Plus didn't he have something like tongue cancer? I think he had a prosthetic tongue installed and hopefully picked the the Gene Simmons model. ;)

:iagree:

I saw VH twice, (can't remember where; I think I was emulating Roth, ). Once they were paired with the Pointer Sistahs! Outstanding concert!
