This is too funny and too ironic!

No offense to our Indian members, but I was reading in the latest BMW Magazine about the boom in India (this article caught my eye because a guy they interviewed drove an X5), and apparently, a current best selling book there is called "A Night at the Call Center" and the top film of the year was "American Daylight", the story of a young woman who works in a call center. I find it funny that a stereotype that we have of Indians working in call centers is perpetuated in Indian media.

Makes me wonder if they would even show the movie or sell the book here just because it "perpetuates" those stereotypes?

Some group would be sure to find themselves offended...

I don't see the book or movie coming to the states either mainly because I don't think there is much of a market for it since a majority of Americans won't be able to identify with it beyond the stereotype. According to the article, IT and call centers are big businesses in India, so naturally, anything about these subjects will interest the people there. As for Indians here in the US, I wouldn't see the reason to be offended by the book or movie since the subject IS becoming, if not already, a leading career choice for native Indians.

I actually wasn't thinking of Indians here being the ones offended. I was thinking that some group (ACLU perhaps?) would be "offended" on their behalf...

It's not a stereotype. The truth working at a call center is becoming a common thing there. I don't see why anyone would take offense.

I find that Indian people have a very good sense of humor. Check out a site called badmash, it's hilarious.

Certainly not as bad a stereotype as this guy...

And that was/is on mainstream television.
