Eliminate Blind spots without additional mirrors

This is a bit of a re-post regarding the need for additional mirrors to see that blind spot. Someone taught me this method and I thought I would share it. I do it and indeed it works. http://safetynet.smis.doi.gov/SideMirrorAdj.htm

Hey folks: Someone here at the site answered this question which made me stop looking for these mirrors. It requires adjusting your mirrors as follows. It took me about a week to get used to it but it has save me many times.

#1 Lean tight against the drivers door. Now adjust the drivers side mirror so that you can just see down the side of the car. This means the mirror will move away from where you have it now.

#2 Lean on the Center armrest and position yourself in the center of the winshield looking out. Now adjust the passenger side mirror so that again you can just see down the side of the car. Again the is going to make your mirror move outward.

When your done sit in the drivers seat. First thing you will notice is you WILL NOT see the side or the rear of the car in these mirrors as you have in the past. It's strange when you first try it but if you want to see the rear of your car that's what your rearview mirror is for. Instead what you will see is that blind spot and a whole lot of other things coming up on you in the other lanes on both sides of the vehicle. I forgot who taught me this but what a difference and no extra mirrors needed. Thanks X5world. I know your saying " he's crazy" Try this.

I use this exact method as well and it did make a significant difference after I got used to it - couple of days. The convex option we've been talking about in the other thread would help even more or even the cheap little stick-ons. Anyone know of a cheap little stick-on that doesn't look like a cheap little stick-on?

I love my cheap little stick-ons. I don't think they are an eye sore, to each his own I guess. I will try Barry's suggestion though. Just seems so weird.

Yep it does in the begining till you start seeing whats in those blind spots. Just think. What do people do when they try to see who's coming in the lanes ajacent to them? They lean forward to get a better look in the side morrors.
Stop leaning just look.

It WORKS...great suggestion Barry...I did 150 miles today towing a boat and it is a little weird, but I think I'm a believer. You just have to make greater use of the rear view mirror.

Ok, I am going to try it. I hate those blind spots and are constantly moving around in my seat to look. But sometimes that's what keeps me awake when driving :)

I does take a little getting used to, but I do believe it is the correct set up...
