Leather furniture question
Are you familiar with the brand "Chateau dax"? I know their stuff is manufactured in Northern Italy, and I'm 99% sure that it is analine dyed. I found this group at Robinson's May. I'm interested in the "espresso" color, see swatch pics. I will say this much, the leather is very thick, and buttery soft :)
I'm just looking for feedback from anyone familiar with the brand. LINK TO PICTURES http://www.gregoryf.com/FRoomLeather%20(1).JPG |
If you are shopping for Weasel props, check out American Leather http://www.americanleather.com/
It ain't cheap, but it is US made. We have a few pieces...maybe 2-3 years old and they still look new. |

Yeah our last couches in the entrance room of the last place were leather, really nice chocolate ones (about 5 shades darker then my truffle interior) and they were great, got them at Jerome's for like 1k, which to me wasn't bad for leather that had that "worm" look to it. (which I like the whole modern thing). I too have always heard Italian Leathers are best thou, ours wasn't the highest quality but very durable which is what I cared about because we beat the crap out of it! GL

I have a Natuzzi couch. It was around $1600. I have one with the recliners on the ends and the high back -- extremely comfortable and looks very nice too. I've had it for 6 years, and it still looks brand new. I just put a little leather conditioner on it once each year. And it's not one of those couches that sits there for decoration -- it's in front of the TV which means I sit on it almost every day -- sometimes for hours, and it still wears extremely well. You might want to check them out:

SG: That's the problem with having such a big house. You need to fill it furniture you won't ever use. :tsk: Okay, Zema will have a nice new leather couch to sleep on. Thet set looks nice. I think though that whatever you buy it will last a long time because you take good care of your stuff and it's not like you have a bunch of rugrats crawling all over them.
Ryan: You're a Kathy Griffin fan? You are true to her main fanbase. I must admit that my wife and I have sat through quite a few hours of her show on Bravo and it's very entertaining. She gets a little annoying but it's bearable. |

Hey Greg, where in Italy is it made? I too am looking for furniture, Don't know if I want leather, fabric, or a suede. If I have time I'll look at the makings of it.

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to say anything....I mean, what guys care about the type of dye with the leather furniture....I let my wife take care of those details...;)

Semi-aniline dyed leather ~ Leathers which have been both dyed throughout and have a finish on the surface are referred to as semi-aniline dyed. This type of leather has become more popular in recent years because it incorporates much of the softness and feel of fully aniline dyed leather with the protective benefits of surface finishing. Semi-aniline dyed leathers can be compared to a painted surface which has been well primed before the finish coating is applied. By dyeing the leather to a base coloration before the final coating is applied, a very even coloration is produced with only a thin layer of finish. Thus, the leather remains softer because it is not necessary to apply a thick finish coating. Following the color coating, a clear protecting finish is applied as on the machine finished leathers. Semi-aniline dyed leathers are available in a wide range of colors because they are not limited to the shades achievable by dyeing alone. Semi-aniline dyed leathers are also desirable because small nicks and scratches are hidden by the base coloration of the hide. If the leather is to be dyed, it is usually done in a vat as part of the tanning process. Aniline dyes in various colors may be added to the drums at this stage, while the hide is absorbent. If correctly done, aniline dyes are permanent and will not rub off or "crock" after the leather is in use. Dyeing should not be confused with pigmentation of adding color to the surface of the leather. Aniline dyeing lets the color permeate the hide so that it goes all the way through the leather (i.e: the color on the back of the hide is the same as the color on the front). |
Now that I see the name a second time, we have a showroom here. I've been in before and still thought not much of it.

Ah, yeah, we both wear pants, not speedos. ;) Anyhow, she's the expert on furniture and I'll see what I can find out re: leather.....

I did say J/K! :) If I told you I have a bean bag chair, would you hold that against me?
Actually I did have a bean bag chair left over from my college days, but every foam pellet in it had turned to dust. I did learn alot from this thread. I do appreciate fine furniture. Honestly. I've actually been buying old Herman Miller and Charles Eames pieces, some in good shape others in shabby shape, and most of which are no longer catalogued or in production. I'm very fond of the whole atomic age/George Jetson era which is why I collect junk from the 50's and 60's. |
Yeah, that SuperGreg is the perfect guy for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy!
