Windows Media Player help!
 

This is just killing me that I can't figure it out and the Net is devoid of any help. I did all kinds of searching on Google and it has left me hanging. When the error occurs and I click on the Web Help button it takes me to a MS WMP page that tells me there is no additional information on the problem. :mad:

I'm getting a C00D11C6 error when I try to stream video. The error dialog box basically tells me I'm running low on memory and that I need to close some programs. I have no other programs running other than WMP and I have 1GB of RAM. I look at my running programs in Task Manager and there aren't many aside from the basics. Besides, 1GB should be plenty.

What gives?

Hey Kevin, firstly I have not seen this problem before. But, in the absence of a solution from our well paid MS, here is a crack at some help. Any help is good help - right?
Question: Have you upgraded your video card driver lately?
If you have, then I recommend you re-install WMP or its codecs.
Let me know how you get on.

C00D11C6 is some type of WMP generic error message that is plaguing users around the world (you saw all the google links), yet it is not listed among all of the WMP error codes:

Is that messed up or what?

Questions:
Will it play a static file from your hard drive?
Will it stream video if you shut down your firewall?
If yes, does your firewall have active scripting turned off?
Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling WMP?

I've been having alot of problems with my 4 year old computer (AMD XP 3200, 2GB RAM) - the computer is more than capable, but my XP installation is probably filled with bad registry entries and orphan files from years of installing and uninstalling programs. So I took drastic action - I bought a new computer from Costco last week.

Edit: I just saw your post in Blondboi's TV thread. I bought an HP computer from Costco that comes with a 21" widescreen monitor. The computer is $1399, but the monitor is selling for $500 by itself (also Costco). The monitor is rated at 1680x1050 which is better than 720p and a little below 1080i HD resolutions. My non-HD DVD's look great on this monitor.

No. I have not touched the video drivers in a long time. Just in case you need this info, I'm running an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro with 256MB.

That is some crazy stuff. It is a well known and apparently not uncommon problem with ZERO support from MS.

WMP will play static video files from the HD.
Shutting down Zone Alarms doesn't make the video source stream.
I even stopped Norton AV from running as was suggested somewhere.
I have not tried uninstalling WMP. I might try that.

Your Costco buy is great. I've seen the HP and they had a Gateway with a gorgeous 21" monitor that swiveled for vertical orientation. It was the same thing as yours in that the price was super good considering the cost of just the monitor. I'm loving the 1650 x 1080 Viewsonic I "stole" from my wife. It's only $355 at Costco. She bought two to run dual monitors but for some reason she is only running a single right now. ;)

EDIT: I reinstalled WMP 10, without uninstalling it first. Problem solved. :thumbup: Gotta love MS. :tsk:
