The bottom line is that Sony made some very bad batteries for two companies (so far)... :mad:

I think more will follow. Word is some HP books used Sony batteries - not at all nearly in the quantities like Dell and Apple, but still.

While we are on that topic...one of my Dell D610's batteries was affected. I was surprised that Dell sent me a new replacement battery within just 1 week of registering myself. That, and a pre-paid UPS waybill so I could send my explosive one back. :P

I would have thought that Sony would have tested these batteries under extreme conditions (heat/cold) before sending them out into the wild.

Its also been several years since they went on sale. Usually major problems like this are discovered by the manufacturer and then recalled instead of having numerous isolated incidents which probe a manufacturer to recall batteries...

Well apparently the bad batteries had some sort of metal particles inside the cells. And also apparently this was known, but seeing no immediate danger, Sony shipped them.

Gee, I wonder if any of the Sony laptops are affected?:confused:
I mean if the batteries made by Sony are being recalled, doesn't Sony make batteries for their own laptops? My Dell laptop's battery is fine (it's not a weapon). I also have a new Sony laptop and hope it is fine....
