The Saab was mint and went like stink. Had a lot of fun surprising all the Subaru drivers who thought they were jet pilots. It had been an ex fleet car and had every conceivable extra including lowered sports suspension was sad to see it go but had to spend cash on the house. The Alfa was a drivers dream, like a little go cart, shame the electric had been designed and installed by monkeys! Blew fuses every month. Brings me to my X5. 4 years old when i got it. Someone had paid £52400k for it with all its extras, i paid £16100. Thats why i'll never buy a new car again! But..... Wobbly drive problem that nobody seems to be able to cure, so bad that i've had to unplug the transfer box actuator and make it rear wheel drive only, wing mirrors that dont fold properly, boot (trunk for the yankees) lid that only opens with remote, and now my bloody drivers door only opens from the inside. Has to be the most unreliable car i've ever had...... Disappointed doesnt even come close..... |

I usually have owned more than one car at a time. I was raised in a family that has always been in the car business. From the time I was 3 years old I remember a different car every few months. Unfortunately I've kept that going a bit, the only difference being that I have to pay for them. I am looking for an early X5 or X3 as a do-it-all to get back to owning just one car. |

First, the L6 is a 635 coupe that has a ton of Leather inside including the headliner, it also has a dual a/c unit (disaster). After owning the 630 (4speed) I wanted the 635, well it wan't a great car...(all are automatic) i think 400# heavier.
I bought the Triumph with the Buick V6, another disaster...overheating problems, very fast on the straightaway however. The Jag/Chev is a match made in heaven....I used a John's kit, fantastic The Jag engine blew a headgasket. |

It gets great mileage, pickup off the line is impressive due to 8 speed tranny and lots of low end torque, it feels like it drives more like a sports car probably because it's smaller than the X5, high 20's MPG, electronics are top notch (except for the 3 year old nav map data), it was less expensive than an X3 and came with more features (premium plus), insurance was less expensive too ( I don't know why). I got a 2012 Phantom Black with Cinnamon interior, friends and family like it a lot. No negativity towards BMW X3's or X5's, I was just ready for something different at this point. I'll be back with BMW at some point. |

If I was a betting man I'd say Michelle picked up a lease return! How's the E70 treating you?

I bought Ron's (Thunder22) at the end of the lease yesterday! http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d233d3a0-1.jpg I had a nice 200 mile drive home to get acquainted with Danica v.E70. I love everything about it so far! Even more, I love that I've known this X since it's first mile! No dark and scary past! I have a lot of cosmetic mods planned for the next few months.... #1 being new wheels and fender flares. :) I had to kick the E53 out of the garage last night, which was probably one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. She looked so depressed. :saad: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...4/ab191a2f.jpg She still looks damn good for being close to 11 years old! |

Welcome to the E70 club!! So many great memories of our E53's over the years. I remember Palm Springs, Juicy Fabulous and Florida like it was yesterday :)

That's awesome! And it is always better when you know the full history of a vehicle. What did he end up getting?

Congrats, Mich!
Did BMW and/or Ron give you a deal?! ;) GL, mD PS...your E53 still looks damn fine, but I am not objective when it comes to E53 vs E70. |
Quote:
No one can believe my E53 is 11 years old. She still looks so stinkin' beautiful. It is going to be a very, very, VERY sad day when I hand over the keys. E53 > E70 in my book. |

Good to know - thx. Have been looking at the Q5 lately. Nothing wrong with my X but I'm ready for something different ..and I may want to dump it before the common $$ issues start to come up. A good friend of mine owns a Porsche/Audi dealership and I can get a new or used Q for true dealer cost + the benefits of service/repairs down the road. Very tempting... |
Quote:
*sniff sniff* Is that wholesale I smell...? ;) |
^i agree on the whole E53>E70 part.i only like the E70 for the taillights
|
Quote:
My dealer couldn't even buy it for this price. ;) Think residual. :woot: |
michelle, now u have to share details.. not fair!
|
Awesome deal then, I figured wholesale would be the more expensive possibility but dealing with other dealers I didn't want to jump to conclusions. :D

find it amazing how some people had 5 cars over a 20 year life span and some had 18 cars over the same time or less
|
I got high mileage used ones when I was young and had to get new ones. Now I can afford cars that have five years of life left in them and keep them that long. My 05 X5 is just fine and I would keep it longer, but over 100,000 means work and money, and possibly breakdowns.

On my phone, so I don't know if I've posted in this thread before, but here it goes.
e30 318i e30 325e e36 325i e46 M3 I owned a 1992 Acura Integra for a few weeks between the two e30's, but it wasn't a BMW, so it didn't really stick. I have been driving for 20 years, so I tend to keep cars a long time. Especially the e36, which I had for 9 years. My wife has had a couple X5's, which is why I originally found this site. Tapatalk |

Received the last post in my email and thought I'd update too. I've slowed down considerably with swapping cars often but I do have a few to add. After I sold the 95 M3, I got really bored with the ZHP. It was a good car, but it was just too numb for me and the seats were no good for long trips. I sold that and picked up a 98 M3 sedan in 2011. I just sold the M3 a couple months ago at 204k miles and bought a new Chevy SS sedan. For those of us who are unhappy with the direction that bmw has gone with their newer cars and the only new bmw that appeals to you is a $70k+ M3/M4, the SS is a great alternative. It's very close to a Holden VF Commodore, imported from Australia and sold as a Chevy. Great car and the exhaust note with the LS3 sounds incredible. Also picked up an M Coupe (Clownshoe) in May 2014. I've always wanted one and of course absolutely love the thing. It has low miles at just over 60k, but I've put on 10k of those miles in just a year and a half. Oops. We still have the 02 X5. 168k miles now. The wife doesn't drive it much, so the mileage has only gone up 5k in the last year and a half (based on my previous posts on here). She still loves driving it. Additions from last post: 98 M3 sedan (manual, Arctic silver) 99 M3 'vert (manual, Estoril) - only had for about a year - sold to a friend 99 M Coupe (just over 60k miles, black) 15 Chevy SS sedan (Holden VF Commodore sold here with Chevy badges) |

But I taught myself to drive my Manual mr2 when I was 16 and drive on a suspended license till 18 when I was legally able to get my license I bought the audi. And yes iv paid for my cars myself. But the mr2 was handed down from my father who has since passed away. So I can't find it in myself to sell the mr2. But I traded my audi a4 for the 850ci. And bought my x5 not long after. Now the 8 series is slowly getting fixed up. |

Family owned a trucking company, so we bought a lot of diesel. The corvette was OK, and I am sure a lot of people would have thought at the time it was one of those ultimate, but it was just OK. Felt every bump in the road, heat of the engine poured through the firewall. I enjoyed my BMWs, they all seem to leak oil. MB makes a very fine engine, I think BMW are easier to service or get parts. |

finally compiled my list(s) to share

After a year of meaning to list my former and present cars, including those I shared with my younger brothers (90% of my money was involved, and most of the labor in keeping them running), and cars I either bought for my spouses (+ one gf), and shared with them, before I moved on.
As you can see, I've had little experience with Euro cars since the 1970's, except for helping out friends with their cars, or in shops. Nearly bought a 2002 back in the day, but bought two VW Superbeetles (1972 & 1973) and a used '73 Volvo in quick succession. I gave the '72 VW to my brother, expecting a payback eventually, but never received a cent, and bought the '73 VW. So, a few years later, when I was itching for the BMW 2002 in 1977, I bought (for half the price) a barely-used Volvo instead (a friend had one just like it, and it was pretty good car...until that same brother "borrowed" mine in '81, and totalled it). Never forgave him for it. Finally, I have a BMW. Attachment 82397 |

1972 Audi Fox 1984 Saab 900S 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee (still with me as my dog and airport car although I fear she's reaching the end of the line without some significant investment) 1996 BMW Z3 (fun car, newlyweds, no kids) 1998 E36 M3 Sedan (along came kids) 2002 E53 X5 4.4i (More kids...now my 4.6 swapped in 2022, overland project, daily driver) 2004 E46 M3 (kids got older) 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland (wife's car and still with us...about 80k) The X5 after the 4.6 swap and other work is definitely my favorite BMW I've owned. Of the others, I wish I still had the E36 M3 sedan. I don't like the looks of the new Grand Cherokees and incresingly I find myself on the BMW USA site building different color X5 xDrive 45e versions. 52 MPG from an X5 with net 389 HP sounds pretty amazing as I watch the needle go down in real time in my "4.6i" - it is a beast and tons of fun so no chance its leaving the barn any time soon, but my wife's jeep is getting along in milage, and I am not sure I want to find out if it is going age well. |
the X5 joins my car corral for the duration, long-term I hope

I'll trade if it's necessary, usually if mutually beneficial, especially if the other guy will restore it, or put it back on the street (i.e. the Chevelle drag car is being fixed-up to be a streetable Pro Street/Resto Mod, with a tamer hydraulic cammed/fuel injected engine ... not a gas gulping solid-roller cammed one). I just wanted to see it live again, even if the trade for the X5 lost money for me (the extra parts and race-only items he's using to finance the streetable new parts were worth a lot). I've listed the vehicles I've kept for over 5 years, from the Chevelle at 27+ years, to the last C-10 project I had for almost 6 years. I even had a Fiero for 19+ (12 not working), so that shows I keep some a bit too long! Attachment 82398 |
