What's the latest digital camera recommendations?

I'm looking for a nice, all-around digital camera for general picture taking, family, etc. I'm no pro photographer (obviously), but want one that takes nice pictures at a decent price. What's the latest good recommendations? I was eyeing one of those Canon Powershots. I admit I don't know much about the latest cameras, so suggestions are appreciated.;)

Pete, I haven't followed digital camera developments lately (it seems to change from week to week), but here's a very good website run by a very experienced professional photographer. His reviews are very detailed and he posts both photographs and videos as part of his reviews.

The website also contains a very active message board where there should be plenty of messages and comments about any camera you're interested in.

www.dpreview.com is the digital camera bible.

that being said, I just bought a Canon SD700IS, and Canon announced the 800 and 900 2 weeks later :) . I can laugh about it now, but it hurt last week.

Here's another thread on the subject:

you can't go wrong with the SD550, 700, 800 or 900. The differences are MP and Image Stabilization. Take a look at the reviews on dpreview.com, it will be a big help.

i've gone throuhg many generations of Canon's Digital Elph cameras ... i'm now on the SD600 and it is absolutely SUPERB, esp once you take the time to use the "semi-manual" modes it offers.

I purchased a Canon SD700IS in early June for a cruise trip in the Mediterranean. I took over 350 pics, some while sailing and they all came out beautiful. I give it high marks for great picture quality in a small size which encourages you to have it with you always. A little expensive (I paid $449.) BUT WORTH IT!!

Or check this out. I might buy this soon. It's very pocket-size and also has the optical image stabilization system. I have the old T7 model (similar design) and am getting the itch to upgrade, again:)
