Atlantic City's Rebirth?

2 Attachment(s)
Last month, we took nice trip to visit friends, in-laws, etc. We did check out Atlantic City. Granted, we know it is no Las Vegas, but it has changed in the past 7 years. Apparently, they are finally follow suit with what Vegas has been doing. I can't believe how Pacific Ave. has been transformed with new shops. There are newer and upgraded casino resorts...you can see Harrah Resorts pumping in tons of money to their casinos (Caesar's, Bally's, Showboat, & Harrah's at the Marina) in response to Steve Wynn's Borgata which is also building another tower!!

Anyhow, Caesar has been remodeling the pier shops. I got some good shots at twilight off the pier as Ernesto was coming....

Kewl pics, Doc! I've never been to AC even though it's only about an hour from me.

I spent every summer from 75 to 83 in Atlantic City... after that, it kinda became less kid-friendly and I haven't been there since. My parents still go occassionally to the casino, but they also have a condo in Wildwood... which I still have to post pics from when Nicole and I went in August.

Personally, I'm a fan of Cape May, Stone Harbor, and Avalon. :)

I know, I was just being silly. But honestly, it's always where my mind goes when I hear Laguna :D I still want to get the M3 out there for an open track day... and there will be an in car camera and lots of pics on that trip...

Also, in terms of an AC rebirth.. I doubt it will really happen. It will never become a "Vegas" east.
- I do remember Trump taking a stab at that over a decade ago, like he was going to revitalize the area. As I haven't been to AC in a decade or so, I can't tell you, but what happened with Taj Majal? That was supposed to be the "starting" point for the rebirth of AC. -- Didn't that hotel put Trump into financial ruins for years? Didn't he also try a Trump towers there?

-- Also, know that there are Indian Reservation gaming closer to NYC than AC, like Foxwoods, etc." It is highly unlikely that AC will become a destination.

First off, it's in a really bad neighborhood. It's very, very seedy. It's tooo easy to get to Vegas now. The only thing good that has ever come to AC is boxing. I don't think AC will ever attract a crowd other than the weekend gamblers destination for the NYC bridge and tunnel crowd.

But again, I haven't been there in 10 years so what do I know?

Actually, that is what I trying to say (in a PC way), that Pacific Ave. is cleaned up. They really have been cleaning up the surrounding neighborhood. I was very surprised. But, we'll see...still love Vegas!
