buying a new work car

I was recently talked out of buying a ford focus svt, I'm sure it was the right thing not to do. anyways my next car could be a honda civic type r. Anyone driven a dohc vtec before? how are they on gas?

Like any 4 banger, fine on fuel.

my wife used to have a 95 delSol with a DOHC VTEC (160hp) and she was getting low 30 mpg.

I have a PT Cruiser. It only gets 21-23 mpg around town but you could haul a lot of stuff in the back of it.

My vote is for the Ford Fusion (reliable, sleek, nice interior, good power, 31mpg hwy etc) and good old ford rebates make it cheap lol

Our daily Yard Rat is our '03 CR-V, with the 2.4 L 4IL and
VTech valve stuff...

I have no real beef with the motor, though in the heavier
CR-V, it takes some serious "toe" to get it up our mtn roads.
When the rpms get into the VTech range, it does really "breathe".

Our CR-V has never seemed "well built" or "Honda-like", but
motor-wise, it runs well, albeit with punkyazz mpg: the best
we've ever seen is 24ish...around town and up and down our
Mtns., it averages 17-18. The Civic should do much better by
comparo.

If the engine is mounted similarly, vis a vis the suspension,
it provides for a near impossible oil filter change, but I'd bet
the Civic does not have that design flaw.

For a daily driver, I would think the Civic, while small,
would do very well.
