The Mets
I glad to see they won tonight.
Given the injured pitchers it may be a hard road, but lets hope they get to play the Yankees. |
METS all the way

Sad to say, I betcha there are 'bout 5 guys on this forum who could be starting pitchers for the Mets......

However, there is only one player on the Mets that would make the Yankees starting lineup, and that is Carlos Beltran. |
The Mets won, seems like they have better players then that other NY team.
It was at the game in great box seats, |

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO METS!!!!!!!

actually, no, they just have better players than the Dodgers... they would have to actually play and beat the Yankees to make your point valid. |

Everyone is getting on ARod's back because he had his worst year in quite some time. That awful year looked like this: .290 average, 35 HRs, 120 RBIs |

you assume that just because the yankees lost last night that a mets player would have helped them win, unfortunately, like most of your thinking on here, that logic is flawed. Rogers pitched the game of his career, it's as simple as that. Have a nice day. |

I hope the Mets do well tonight.
We should do a poll of Mets and Yank fans? |
Dodgers and the Yankees are my 2 favorite teams....with Maddux on the mound hopefully the Dodgers can pull out 1 win but will be hard w/out Nomar in the lineup...
As for the Yankees yiiikkes!!!! It's becoming a pattern now, win the first game then lost 3 straight..I have no faith in any of the Yankees pitchers besides Wang & Rivera |
I am a big fan of the Mets but would rather see the Yanks win unless they are playing the Mets.

Do you now want to talk about game 2 or should I speak with your alter ego? |
Steinbrenner for the past couple years has been focusing too much in the 1-9 lineup, this offseason he needs to rebuild the starting pitcher rotation....
R. Johnson needs to retire or maybe should convert to a closer, Wright can't handle the spotlight in NY and needs to get traded....in the end you win with pitching not an all-star batting lineup |
Quote:
What do you want to say about the game tonight? 5 nothing, I know its just the pitcher having the game of his life. Still hope the Mets have a good game tonight. |
I think it has more to do with confidence and trust....
I mean when the Yankee starting pitchers are giving up so many runs that early in the game it kind of screws up with the gameplan and the batters have less of a greenlight...and also psychologically it helps out the Detroit pitchers a lot because they have more room for error But..Beltran? Sure he would have helped, but I don't think he would have been the deciding factor in a victory...we have enough allstar batters, we just need some friggin pitchin! Should have started Wang tonight not Wright |
Guess you are right but the Yanks were playing stronger than the Mets at the end of the season.
Was hopping for a subway series |

Assuming the Dodgers/Yankees get eliminated tonight I'll be rooting for Oakland and the Mets Also I heard somewhere that it was possible A-Rod would be traded to the Marlins for Dantre Willis...what ya think about that? |
Bet george is smoking mad.
I wonder if A rod and others willing be coming back. Sometimes money does not buy happiness. |
Quote:
OK...Yankees are basically eliminated, down 7-0 and still without a HIT!! It's absolutely certain now that A-Rod must go, make sure Matsui doesn't break his wrist again so we can get a full season out of him...our starting pitching rotation could be Wang/Mussina/Willis and fillers, hopefully with a different outcome next year |
Will we be saying goodbye to Joe Torre as well?

I'm still a Yankee fan over the Mets but I'll give credit where it's due, as Yankee fans we can always look on the bright side..the Red Sox didn't make the playoffs! |

That's a typical "yankee hater" comment. Here's how the scenario usually goes: non-Yankee fan taunts yankees fan yankees fan defends team non-yankees fan claims yankee fan is an arrogant sob for standing up for their team. It's the ridiculous double standard that non-yankees fans can bash the crap out of the yankees at will and expect yankees fans to just sit there and not say a word, and if they do? they're labeled as arrogant. Whatever, I'll just leave you with this: Got Rings? and 26 |

The Yankees problem is age, not any specific player. They are filled with vetran players who are no longer hungry. And of course they need better and younger pitching.
Back in the late 1990s, while they did not have all the superstar names that are on the current roster, they had young players who were hungry and who were clutch. Alex Rodriguez is not the problem. While he had an awful series, so did Cano, Shefield and Giambi. ARod actually has a career postseason batting average of over .300. He just had a bad series. Back in the 2004 postseason, he was awsome and hit over .400. And in 2001 with Seattle he also hit over .400 in the postseason. What the Yankees need to do is to get younger. I really liked how they brought up Melke Cabrera this year, and how both Wang and Cano developed into great players. They need to continue doing this. Next year they are expecting Philip Hughes to be in the starting rotation. For all those who do not know who he is, he is the top pitching prospect in all of baseball and is only 20 years old. This season his minor league numbers looked like this: 12-6, 2.16 era, 146 innings pictched, 168 strikeouts, 34 walks, opposing batters hitting .179 against him For next season, they have one too many outfielders. Hopefully they will trade one of the older ones in the offseason (not Melke Cabrera) for some pitching help. |
I'm sure the Dodgers would love A-Rod...I'd think he'd shine in LA too, so why not trade A-Rod + fillers for Brad Penny + fillers
|

That's just a guess, he could also be saying "i need a tissue", you never know..... |

I'm not sure the Dodgers would take on his contract. |

People forget that most of the stars we had during the World Series years of the late 1990s were guys who weren't great when they first came up from the minors and had a few years to develop. Bernie Williams hit .238 his first season, and did not hit .300 until his 5th year. But 3 years after that he won a batting title. Mariano Rivera's first year he was 5-3 with a 5.51 ERA. Jorge Posada's first 3 years he batted .250, .268 and .245 and averaged 11 HRs per season. But starting the year after that until this past year, he has averaged over 20 HRs, driven in 80-100 runs, and batted around .280. With the mindset of the current management, these 3 guys would have been shipped out of New York within their first couple of seasons. I'd prefer if they would trade some of the older guys to make room for the younger ones. That is how you build a World Series contender. You don't go out and sign 35 and 40 year old vetrans and expect them to play like they did when they were 30. |

you need to look at the mutts roster and point out all of the home grown players and all of the free agents. |
My comment was related to the Yankees and baseball in general. It is factual. Please lets focus on the facts.

All of their superstars from the World Series teams were either home grown, or were players they traded for when they were still young. None were vetran free agent signings. Rivera, Pettite, Posada, Jeter, Bernie Williams -- all home grown Tino Martinez, Paul Oneil, Scott Brosius -- were traded for when they were young and were not superstars yet. But since 2001, they have stopped letting young players develop and have consistantly traded all their young players for old vetrans and have tried to sign old vetran free agents to fill their roster. Look at the current group, all signed as free agents over the age of 30, and most of them now over 35 years old: Giambi, Mussina, Damon, Matsui, Randy Johnson, Jared Wright, Shefield, etc. This is the strategy they used througout the 1980s and which failed miserably. Back then they ended up with players like Andy Hawkins, Gary Ward, Ken Phelps, Jessie Barfield, Rick Rhoden, etc, and traded away young players like Jay Buhner, Al Leiter, Willie McGee, Doug Drabek, and Jose Rijo -- all went on to become stars for other teams. |
Who are you kidding Modcat. Get your facts right. Stop the sharade. :nanana: OH and BTW the mutts are part of the MLB.

The Mets has a great team from top to bottom, Pedro Martinez is down and they still win. The problem with the Yankees is that they have a great players and not a great team. |
Quote:
If you look at the teams who have won the last 10 World Series, you will find that every one of them, with the exception of the 1997 Marlins and 2001 Diamondbacks (both were expansion teams) did it with home grown players. |

Pouring rain, no Mets game tonight
|
How about those Mets, they sure kick butt last night!
Hope they take the next two.;) |
How many friggin rain delays are there gona be? This may actually benefit the NL winner though, the Tigers have been resting for too long already.
|
Yes the Tigers have less injuries and more rest.
It sure does give them an advantage. But I still think the Mets have a fair chance. Will be watching the game tonight. |
St. Louis pushes Mets to brink
Homers from Chris Duncan and Albert Pujols powered the 4-2 win as the Cardinals took a 3-2 series lead. The NL East champs are one loss away from frittering a 97-win season. |
