Muslim scholars refute recent violence.

Since I have a habit of bashing on Muslim extremists, it is only fair I post this:

Quote:

Despite the predominantly emotional and angry response to the Pope's controversial remarks about Islam, some Muslim writers and intellectuals have been extremely critical of the way Muslims have responded so far.

The angry reactions to the Pope's original remarks included the killing of an Italian nun in Somalia and attacks on Christian churches in Palestinian territories.

But several Muslim writers argued that such violent reactions appeared to confirm the very things that Muslims have been seeking to refute.

Some concluded that it would have been better to engage in a rational debate with the Pope.

The European Muslim scholar, Tarik Ramadan, blamed Muslim leaders and scholars for such violent responses.

'Let off steam'

Leaders who deny their people freedom of expression, he wrote, find it convenient to allow their people to let off some steam as long as it is about Danish cartoons or words uttered by the Pope.

Mr Ramadan asks rhetorically whether it was wise of Muslims to feel offended by the Pope's quotation from a 14th Century Christian emperor while they continue to ignore questions they have faced over the past five years about the meaning of the term "jihad" and the legitimate use of force.

Khaled Hroub, a Jordanian-born academic, wrote that the aggressive and intolerant reactions failed to live up to the ideals Muslims believe in.

The Muslim reaction to the Pope's apology has also come in for a lot of criticism.

Mr Hroub wondered whether Muslim clerics can ever be asked to apologise for believing that Islam is the one and only true religion.

One columnist, Abdelwahab Al Affendi, ridiculed those who demanded a retraction of the Pope's original remarks.

Mr Al Effendi wrote saying that nothing short of the Pope's converting to Islam will ever assuage the anger of those people!

I wish more people felt that way in that community.

You'd be surprised how many Muslims actually do feel that way. But then again, that sort of sensible reaction doesn't sell quite as many newspapers as publicizing to the max the reactions of a few extremists who blemish an entire community, does it?. (Think about it; who's doing the most blemishing? the few extremists? or the sensasional-news-hungry, all-controlling, rich, immensely powerful mass-media???)

Some very powerful people actually want the majority of Western Civilization at war with that particular Eastern Culture. And there's nothing like beefing up those sort of news to accomplish their goals.

Funny, you would think the 'liberal' media would print more of the feel-good stuff to defuse support of the war, but instead they only print the 'radical' stuff, which seems to support the war.

Maybe it's because the radicals are the ones killing us.

Or maybe it's because in the end only the "spicy" news sells... even for the "liberal" media....

No duobt about that. They milk a story waaaayyyyy too long. I don't know because I'm not 150 years old, but I'm guessing it's probably always been that way.

Perhaps you should read a news source that does not care about "selling" their news. ;)

For example, the BBC which is quoted above, is a non-profit organization which is funded by the British taxpayers, not by advertisers or private interests. Their purpose is not to sell their news so they can increase revenue from advertisers. Their purpose is to report news.

Actually I frequent that site every day and get RSS updates from it. This is the first story of that calibre I have seen in a LONG time.

Didn't know that but i watch it often. Whats the other one? DSW I believe? You know what? it would be great to start a thread about how the news gets reported around the world. Do we have any experts on that subject???
