From Iraq my new avatar

They thought they could block the road with an old car!

cmyX6go 10-07-2006 04:41 AM

How does it feel crunching over a car in that thing? I bet the grin is almost as good as drving the X. :)

Be safe and thank you!

GABRIEL 10-07-2006 05:03 AM

The sad part is that it wasn’t me driving the tank, I got the picture from one of my friends, I would love to do it, that thing can go to 70 MPH easy, and will crush everything on his path.

I think insofmarine was just trying to verbalize being against the war in Irak.

I for one find the avatar rather arrogant and tasteless, to say the least.http://www.xoutpost.com/images/icons/icon13.gif

What if someone else would choose other Irak-war related images to create his/her avatar, like for example, these:?

Attachment 10361 Attachment 10362 Attachment 10363
Attachment 10364 Attachment 10365 Attachment 10366

My point is that deep down, I dont really see much difference between the posted avatar and the (likewise tasteless) examples above....

My advice to Gabriel would be; Lose the Avatar, Dude.

Why does every damned thread here lately seem to turn into war/anti-war, lib/con, Rep/Dem/Lib, etc?

I am rapidly losing a desire to click on threads, because they are sure to be more of the garbage. Keep this up and X5World will dwindle and die.

I'm with you Doc. Here I am feeling guilty for maybe having offended someone because I commented on a picture. I didn't make a statement about the war, nor was it my intention to do so.

GABRIEL 10-07-2006 10:42 AM

6TO,

I’m not into politics, and I’m agree with you, some of the thing that happened here in Iraq there were wrong, but there a lot of good things happening here every day that no one takes pictures, nor CNN or BBC like to talk about. But I am proud to be a soldier, and I will change my avatar when I think that is appropriate. That car was place there to force the soldier dismount, and detonate an improvise explosive device. They were not trying to be funny; also we paid for all damage cause to any property.

Al contrario su fotos son unas de mal gusto, como le dije yo no estoy en este foro para hablar de politica.

Wagner 10-07-2006 10:57 AM

:( ..... let's all step back from our pedestals of preaching for a minute and realize that the picture was that of a tank crushing a car, nothing more. What has happened in this post is ridiculous...IMO.

Point Taken, Gabriel. I meant no disrespect for your way of life / career as a soldier. Like Doc, I'm also getting pretty fed up with all the political threads being tossed back and forth in this otherwise-great-site full of interesting people that have an obvious passion in common.

The thing is I purposedly exemplified my response with such utterly tasteless imagery precisely to try and get my point across. And the point is that what you saw as a harmless image of a military vehicle being used for the well-being of a well-meaning military operation, can at the same time be seen by a majority of the planet's population outside the U.S. as an icon of a brutal and pointless atrocity to humanity called the Irak war.

Wagner, please pause for a moment of clarity. What has happened in this post is nothing ridiculous. Ridiculous is making a light story of a dead-serious subject.

Saludos.

Wagner 10-07-2006 02:29 PM

The picture was an image, that was it.

6to 10-07-2006 04:12 PM

Sure. Just an image of a big-ass military tank crushing a civilian vehicle. Entitled "From Iraq my new Avatar". With added statements like: "The sad part is that it wasn’t me driving the tank", "I would love to do it, that thing can go to 70 MPH easy, and will crush everything on his path", and complimentary pats-on-the-back remarks like "nice pic" and "cool avatar just the same". Quite tasteful, really.

Wagner 10-07-2006 04:21 PM

again, just a 120x120 px picture.

Let's make believe for one second that the avatar was a picture of a Monster Truck with wheels 10 foot high rolling over and crushing a line of cars at a spectator event. And the guy that posted it said, no it wasn't me, wish it was, wouldn't it be cool to drive that thing. That's the way I took it. Not everyone has political agendas. Lighten up. I said before, not intended as political. Can't we take anything at face value without reading something into it.

Wagner 10-07-2006 04:28 PM

L...apparently not.....

"Reading something Into it"???? , ALL I did was to actually take it at Face Value (maybe THAT was "my problem")... It's easy; start with the Thread's very title, then put it together with the (yes, simple 120x120) picture. That might give some people a hint...

One doesn't need to have a "Political Agenda" to think something is clearly tasteless and offensive.

Let's just leave it that we agree to disagree. I'm not looking to get into a pissing match with anyone. If you choose to look through some of the political threads here you will see that I am no where to be found. There is a reason for that. I'd like to keep it that way.

No problemo Laura, I understood you right the first time. Just :stickpoke 'n with Wagner :) . I plan to do a series of quick sightseeing photo trips across the Iberian Peninsula in the next few months with the X5; will be a pleasure to share all the cool Nikon moments I manage to create.

Cheers,

Proud to be a soldier? I am interested to know what you are fighting for?Protecting your family? or rather Bush political interests and his bullshit about "democracy the american way"?

insofmarine 10-07-2006 09:28 PM

My apologies to everyone, but this guy just chose the wrong forum for his "pictures" or his soldier heroism. Look at the web address-this BMW forum!!!

Wagner 10-07-2006 09:34 PM

I'm still taken back by the questioning a soldier as to why he fights for his country....and still trying to figure out how a picture about a tank crushing a car has become what it is. And I wonder if you'd be so free with your comments with a couple of these soldiers standing near by. I know I wouldn't.

Do you agree with everything your boss tells you to do? He's doing his job, right, wrong or indifferent. He's thousands of miles from home and family and all that is familiar. I applaud him, regardless of whether or not I agree with the cause.

ylwjacket 10-07-2006 10:25 PM

Don't let it get you down Gabriel

I didn't see your avatar.

However, me and most of us here in the States appreciate your courage and heroism.

There are some people who politicize anything, which is to be expected.

However, we will never question the valor of the guy gutting it out over there.

God speed to you.

Ignorent, very ignorent!.

Soldiers follow orders just like anyone working under a "boss" should!

If I told my boss I didn't want to machine a batch of speed camera housings because I am opposed to speed camera use, I'd be fired!. If I refused an order in the military because I don't think its right, I would be shot or arrested for insubordination.

If you have a hard time doing what people of authority say to do, then you can go live in the backwoods with no computer, no electricity and simply live off the land!, we however know how to follow orders, soldiers or not! Its our job to!

I haven't even seen the pictures that Gabriel posted, but here are some more pics that are sure to offend the Anti-Patriots. :nana2:
