The point of this is....

Go to www.bimmian.com, click on the X5, and look at the shark fin antenna... Would someone please tell me the point? Why would you spend $45 on a fake antenna that doesn't work? I'd be embarrased to go to my dealer with that... ("Hey, look at that loser who doesn't have GPS but wants people to think he does!")
I'm sorry, but I don't see the point.

Neither do I. A friend of mine bought one and put it on his E46 330Ci. It's so stupid. I have told him so many times to take it off before I just rip it off for him. He has not removed it and it has now been about a year. He thinks it looks cool. I pointed out to him that it doesn't even sit flush against the roof and that if you look closely, you can see daylight underneath the parts that don't sit flush. He thinks it updates the look of his '02. I told him that to do that he'd have to change out his rear lights to LED's. Whatever. It's such a shame. He could make that car look so cool but he does stupid shit like that. He also put chromed OEM 17" sport wheels on it despite me telling him that they will look smaller and he should spend the money on a set of 18's. Sure enough, the wheels look smaller than before.

He occasionally laments that he should have spent the extra money and bought an E46 M3. I'd hate to see a fake shark fin on that if he had bought one of those. :tsk:

Soooooooo dumb.... Who puts 17s on their car... (My 17s are going out the window soon...
My friends like to vicarously mod through me, so they spend time looking at BMW mods... I was at Bimmian and looking at the shark fin.. At that exact second, my friend IMs me and is like "dude you need to get a shark fin!"... I was like... No.. I'll take that $45 and put it towards the birchwood trim fund.

Not only did I remove my 3.0 badges but I replaced them with those cool looking V12 badges from a Mercedes S600. :p I guess I could have just added another 3.0 badge for 3.0 + 3.0 = 6.0.

Remember the Escape someone posted a pic of a while ago with X5 logos and Roundels on it?

Janix X5 is no ordinary X5. I have read and heard so much about his X5. BMW is goint to put ///M version of X5 in the market in a couple or so years.

B-Line 05-23-2005 10:46 PM

Agree. Agree. Agree..

Except for the debadging.. That doesn't bother me. I actually like cars that are debadged regardless of the engine size. I have considered removing my badges several times.. IMO.. It makes it look more european..

On another note.. I do happen to like the pedal sets.. Does anyone have any suggestions for what pedal set (plus foot rest) I should install on my car?

Thanks..

And, I also like changing the colors of my roundels. I am thinking of replacing all the blues to silver to match the color of the car. I had it done on my 4.4 and it looked great.

Try Ebay for pedal sets. ///M or ACS are good.
///M-Tec
ACS pedals

I don't think the shark fin is for GPS. It's for BMW Assist.

RealShakaZulu 05-24-2005 11:36 AM

What the easiest way to remove the 4.4 decal?

UncleTito 05-24-2005 11:55 AM

Dental floss (and hair dryer to heat it up a little bit before hand).

Correct. It's for the cell phone for Assist (which I have never even tried in my 330 after almost 18 months -- I wonder if it works? :bustingup )

Kewl X5 05-24-2005 05:17 PM

Whoops, forgot you did that.....Well, you know, those guys with the 318i who remove the badge thinking that we may mistaken it for a 325i except you can you hear the 4-banger and see the single exhaust pipe.

:iagree: I didn't mean in any way that he did something wrong by putting an M badge on the car... I know that car is incredible, and in person it looks even better, if you can believe it!

YES! There it is! What a dumba$$... Not only is it NOT an X5, he wants it to be an X5i.... And to top it off he has a BMW license plate frame, but it's not even a genuine BMW one... It's a knockoff! It's a good thing his plate is blurred out, because someone would (should, maybe?) go smack him upside the head.

I figured out why he had to go for "X5i" instead of also adding a 3.0i badge somewhere. See that particular Ford Escape is the smaller-engine version. It has a 2.3L I-4 making 153 horses. Since there is no 2.3i badge that he could make out of the existing badges, he had to settle for X5i instead.

I can not believe I just saw that...Maybe Ill take off my X5 badge and put XC90 on there..I just had an argument with a guy who insisted these made X's look like pieces of s*&@...He said they are more durable, faster, and better looking...I couldnt believe what I was hearing...

Then I let him sit in mine, and he said, Wow, this IS pretty nice...I told the main difference was the XC90's cockpit was made out of play-doh....

I have test driven the XC90 T6 AWD. It's one of the numbest cars I've been in. There is absolutely NO steering response, the suspension bounces like those in a New York taxi. And the interior is god-awful, especially with that plastic "aluminum-like" trim they put.

And the transmission kicks when downshifting, even from 3rd to 2nd.

Don't even get me started on the "organic-shaped" head and tail lights.

Curious Joel 05-25-2005 03:54 PM

I actually like the XC90... My friend's got one in Crystal Green and it's pretty nice. It's no X5, but I like it.
