Nice response.

Aren't leaders of governments suppose to be adult and not respond with queer comments like 'anybody asking for a timetable in Iraq should back off'?

Excuse me but it's OUR money and OUR troops over there Rumsfeld...not your personal little Army......

Man that guy pisses me off.

The first thing Bush needs to do is fire him or at least side line him.

I would get Powell back on a consulting basis and have him run the war.

I suppose it depends on whether or not you agree with the idea that setting a timetable emboldens the enemy to just wait it out a while...

How many times does Rummy have to state it before people stop asking for a timetable?

Wagner 10-27-2006 10:50 AM

It's not the meaning of the response that is an issue to me, its the phrasing. He can't come up with something for poetic then "back off"??

I swear watching Tony Blair speak next to any member of the US Administration is like watching Kennedy debate Nixon.

ylwjacket 10-27-2006 10:54 AM

I agree. Even if there should not be a timetable, "back off" is arrogant.

In that position, you should absolutely expect to be asked that question every time you step out there.

A response like that certainly does not build support for the war at home.

The same exact ground result as we currently have, but delivered by a leader who most people didn't think was a prick, would be wonders for support. But, you have a porcupine be the guy at the microphone, and, like or not, support wanes.

Wagner 10-27-2006 10:56 AM

Get Tony Robbins out there and you'd get a much better result.

Exactly.... my first instinct to a comment like "back off" is F You. Total arrogance and poor choice of words on Rumsfeld's part... and also very defensive realizing that people are getting pissed that there have been no exit strategies or remote ideas of when things will "get better" and troops can come home. Not a way to win support at all.

ROFL Tony Robbins!

E61Silver 10-27-2006 12:31 PM

My problem with this and numerous other threads is they are about the same subject Bush and the War.

You have your point of view others have a different point of view; its America and people are entitled to express themselves. However this like beating a dead horse, generally nothing new just the same opinions by the same people lets move on.

How about "don't post if you have nothing to add"

How about the fact that all most all your post are negative and by their basic nature your posts have nothing to add. Take your anti Bush anti war soap box somewhere more productive! If you want to change things go support your local democratic running for office just please stop whining like a little baby.

I am also anti Bush, anti War and pro Gay, just get tired of your nonproductive daily discussions about the same old same old.

This is X5 World not anti Bush World please move on.

I am sure you have interesting thoughts on other things like cars and your X5.
Lets talk about fun things and not be dragged down by age old problems like war and politics.

Wagner 10-27-2006 02:18 PM

Are you still talking? Admin...can we step in here with this guy? I'm doing all I can not to say what I'd like to say....thanks.

ekaz 10-27-2006 02:33 PM

Alright guys, let's take a step back here. Mr. Wagner simply posted the fact that Rumsfeld's statement could've been phrased better. It went from there.
Mr. Blue, you did not add anything to the discussion except to step in and start attacking Mr. Wagner about his views and the threads he posts.
If you don't like the thread, don't read it or don't reply to it. You could've left it at the part that you're tired of these types of posts. You continued on about Mr. Wagner.

Mr. Wagner, thank you for the self-censorship and not entertaining him.
Mr. Blue, the thread is in the lounge, read it if you like, it's not mandatory.

broknlgs24 10-27-2006 03:20 PM

Blue if u have such an issue w/ Wagner's posts, y read them?

E61Silver 10-27-2006 04:28 PM

My point is simple his posts are all of the same, ANTI BUSH ANTI WAR:dunno:

This is X5world not Wangers Anti Bush soap box.

I feel its easy to bash someone but far harder to cause positive change.

Once again I am not a fan of Bush and the War but am tired of people bashing Bush with no purpose or gain. We are stuck with him for two more years. Wanger and the other bleeding heart liberals can do a lot more positive things. We are Americans and while we have the right to speak our mind and therefore speak out against the president and the war; we need to consider the impact. By impact I mean that all this anti war view is fueling the fire of the terrorist and only making maters worth.

Is it to much to think ask people to think before they speak? The more I explain the more I see Rumsfeld point, every day people ask when is the war going to be over. He and almost everyone else realize that we are in deep shit and doesn't no what to do and has no clue how or when we will end the war. The one thing is clear the press or Wanger harping on the same question is not helping things. We need to act like Americans and support men and woman at war, not ask every day when are we pulling out. This would require that people fore go the short term pleasure of bashing Bush and look for a long term solution.

Wagner 10-27-2006 04:30 PM

Wanger or Wagner leaves it to the admins.....again.

E61Silver 10-27-2006 04:36 PM

Whats your problem Wagner this is not a personnel attack.

Yes its a different point of view but it far from personnel.

If your a liberal how can you support censorship?

x54.4blue; lighten up. Read the title of this Forum; t.h.e..l.o.u.n.g.e. Mr. Wagner has a much right to be anti-bush on this forum as any other forum member has the right to be pro-bush..(uuuh even just writing that was painful)

btw, if you want positive change, (like in 2 years..) it might actually be a GOOD idea if as many people in as many places keep on Bush-Bashing till then..

Wagner 10-27-2006 04:44 PM

To quote Rumsfeld "Back Off" :)

E61Silver 10-27-2006 04:49 PM

We all have the right to post our view but you need to consider the impacts on others. If you have something new to say thats great but harping on the same political views in a car forum is really selfish.

I think the anti war sedimate no matter how correct is actually feeding the fire of the terrorist, what do you think?

ekaz 10-27-2006 06:26 PM

Until the other day, Rumsfeld didn't tell anyone "back off"

I think he got angry and finally said something he really thought not the the BS you hear from politicians all day long.

I think we all should back off on the war issue unless we have something productive to add.

I think we are in deep trouble with regard to the war and their is no easy answer.

ylwjacket 10-27-2006 09:01 PM

we are in deep trouble. maybe some of us, even us lifelong republicans, would like to see someone in washington step up with a plan that is better than giving the middle finger toe We the People, who in fact own the government.

someone up there has got to figure a way out. personally, i think it's more troops, and a kick-ass approach. but, i'm not in washington.

More troops can't hurt, but doggone, where is the rest of the Arab world? Or why not 300,000 Chinese troops? The Peoples Republic is getting a free ride and they are sitting on their handsw as it is with the North Koreans.

Though this is off the topic of Rumsfeld being a tard, I agree...whats up with the rest of the world, like China?

errr, down here we call bush bashing taking an old bomb car out and making roads through the bush where there aren't any... he he

back on the subject though, I followed the link and read the article. Without a Dem/Rep bent either way I think this thread is an excuse to have a winge.... and I'm fine with that as it's election time up there.

The comment highlighted was part of an overrall reply to questioning and I think you've highlighted just the part of the interview that you want to. Here is the whole quote

Quote:

"You ought to just back off, take a look at it, relax, understand that it's complicated, it's difficult," Rumsfeld said regarding deadlines. "Honorable people are working on these things together. There isn't any daylight between them."
What about these?

Quote:

"it's difficult. We're looking out into the future. No one can predict the future with absolute certainty."
Quote:

"You're looking for some sort of a guillotine to come falling down if some date isn't met," Rumsfeld told reporters. "That is not what this is about."
Although I agree he comes over as a prick, I would hardly call the above quotes arrogant from a person in his position.

Cheers

If there is one thing I have learned from this forum, its that Wagner is about as moderate as anyone on this forum. He is certainly no liberal.

Wagner 10-28-2006 09:04 PM

Well, at least Eric has been paying attention :)
