Poll: What on-line music service are you using?
I signed up for Yahoo! Music's Y! Unlimited package and I am loving it. The cost is under $5 a month if you pay for a year in advance and it gives you access to over a million songs in their library. There's only been one or two artists that I haven't been able to find songs from.
Download speeds are amazing. I can download an entire CD to my computer in typically under 4 minutes. This music model is based on the "rent" versus "own" philisophy and it creates music files that are in WMA protected format. If you are tech savy, though, there are ways to get these over to your iPod, if you know what I mean ;) Just curious what others are doing..... |
This is actually a great discussion.....I am curious about what others are using too. I tried WalMarts music download but their MP3s are 128kps...I'd like to find a service that has 192 or better for quality.

Older&lowTech here, and no downloads...Jeeshh, between my hundreds of CDs, the Sirius that comes w/DISH Sat TV, some exc. local radio stations off the tuner, etc., I just don't have time or inclination to get into streaming dwnlds of more music. I do cruise some new/indie sites to listen to their promos and tidbits on occas.
No dis to dwnloading or those that do; I can understand the attraction. I jes'don't have time for More Music these days. Good question & survey though, for you Young Bulls. BR, theOl'BeethovenFan |

I use MusicMatch. I've had it for more than a couple years now and really love it. I forget, but I think the highest-level package runs me about $65 a year.

You didn't hear it from me, but when using Rhapsody you get to preview the ENTIRE song before you buy anything. If you get hold of a program called Adobe Audition or other audio editing software, and you make the proper connections on your PC (I use an external audio control board) you can record as you preview.
iTunes seems to be the best organized site IMHO, and I still use the old Napster. JV |
I've been using Yahoo Music Unlimited for about two weeks now. I have the music downloaded to my Creative Zen Portable Media Center (a gift from MS for participation in a beta).
I used to have Napster but it was more expensive and buggier. YMU is a great deal for $60/year. There are some artists that it doesn't have like Led Zeppelin, Radiohead (purchase only), King Crimson and anything on ECM Records. On the other hand it has lots of music to explore and as Jeff wrote you can download an entire album in a few minutes (usually over 500 KB/s here). |
I use iTunes Music Store but if its a ok song, I would just download it from LimeWire.

I use Morpheus.
