No, the 2002-2004 996 TT is not the same as a GT2. The GT2 is a Twin Turbo but with Rear Wheel Drive instead of All Whell Drive. Also it is set-up and tuned more as a track car then as a street car. That is not to say that it is not a great street car, it is just more "track ready" and is really designed for more aggressive drivers with excellent car control abilities that don't mind a "stiffer" ride. My recommendations in your quest for the ultimate Pcar, 1) Be prepared to look for 6 months to find the right car. 2) Be prepared to sacrifice something: Color, Mileage, Price, Location 3) Have your wish list ready then pick up the phone and call everywhere. -- I have bought two Porsche's, the first, I was living in Miami and found my car in Greensboro, S. Carolina. The second I was living in Los Angeles and found my car in Portland Oregon. -- Part of the fun in finding your ultimate car is buying it somewhere else and driving it back. And many, many, many, people buy these cars out of state. 4) Try to buy it from a dealership with a CPO if you can. A lot of these cars should be coming off lease as such, you can probably get a good deal on one. But literally, you need to call every Porsche dealer in your 3-4 state area, if you don't find one in a neighboring state, cast your line even deeper. Literally, you need to call every dealership until you find one. Persistance pays. --- Go to the Porsche website, use the dealer locator and print every dealership in the state. Print it out, make calls with pen ready, repeat 48 times if neccessary. -- If you find a car out of state and can't check it out yourself, ask someone on Rennlist to inspect the car for you and also get a PPI. There are dozens of people that will be happy to help you. They will take pictures and find every blemish the car has. They will tell you if it's been in accidents, been smoked in, been maintained properly.. It is a fantastic resource with a great community of helpful people.. And don't be afraid that someone will find and "steal" your car from under you. It doesn't happen. Any other questions about your search, feel free to ask me. I will help in any way I can.. Also, I recommend you start an excel worksheet to keep track of the cars you find. They all start to blur after a while and it's good to track your calls and the vehicles. I recommend topic headers: Year, Mileage, Color, Options, Price, Location, Manual/Auto, etc. The more detail you log, the better your ability to price the market and get a good deal. I also have some other tips when you get further along on how to negotiate your deal. I have saved my friends thousands..... B |

Excellent ideas and advice...given the rain and the CEO with a lead foot, methinks the GT2 is overkill...I like the AWD...the hope is to find a 6S Arctic Silver/Black with Nav that is at least 1000 miles away...will focus on dry states like Utah, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Arizona (SupaGee may have an inside line on well heeled MILFs who are getting a P-car in the divorce but can't drive stick). Summer '07 road trip... 2002, 03, or 04? All the same or is the 04 slightly more refined than prior years? |
Do these wheels only come with the X50 option?
