the ones to go with, apparantly, are chevron; mobil; and 76. sonnen porsche, in fact, EXPLICITLY told my dad to ONLY use chevron in his 996 C4S. i had originally thought that was ridiculous. well after putting some shell in the car i found out why: ridiculous amounts of smoke started coming out the back lol and went away as soon as i refilled with chevron lol :) but thank you for the TG wishes, and same to everybody else!! :D |

BMW as part of a group supporting the Top Tier Standard gas has Shell on their list and from experience have noticed that the M5 runs better on Shell compared to other gas not part of the Top Tier program... Chevron and 76 are Top Tier retailers as well... More here: http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html |

I take it you're referring to the animal, Barry, not humans :D  Unfortunately no turkey's here, unless they're imported :) so I guess I'll have to wait until next Thanksgiving to enjoy a turkey for dinner :D |

Shell had serious problems with high sulphur content in their gas in May of 2005 in the South Eastern states (most notably Florida and Louisiana) that was causing the fuel gauge sending unit in the gas tank of many makes/model cars to fail. It was so bad that Shell was paying for repairs if a motorist could show that they purchased Shell gas during that time. Was it an isolated occurrence? Probably. Do many people still stay away from Shell because of it? probably. |
Here's the original story: (Note: this was in May 2005 before Katrina)
Drivers Hit by Gauge-Gumming Gasoline NEW ORLEANS - Just before the heavy-driving Memorial Day weekend, Shell Oil has stopped the sale of gasoline at more than 500 of its stations in the South because of high levels of sulfur that can damage vehicle fuel gauges and make an empty tank appear full. The damage done by the bad gasoline could cause some drivers to run out of gas unexpectedly. Also, car owners may have to replace their fuel gauges — a repair job that can easily cost $400 to $600. The tainted gasoline originated at the Motiva Enterprises refinery in Norco, La., according to Shell. Motiva is the refining arm of Shell in the East and South. |
