How is this holy? In the name of God? Not Mine.

Will someone please tell me how these people who do these things can possibly call themselves holy? Or proclaim to be doing ANYTHING in the name of God???

Burned alive: Sectarian clashes spawn new horrors in Iraq
Militants killed dozens of people - including six worshippers who were burned to death - and set mosques on fire in a Sunni Arab enclave in Baghdad on Friday, one day after a series of car bombings in the capital's Shiite stronghold of Sadr City killed 202 people..... I'm not trying to start a political argument. I just can not understand how someone can proclaim "God is Great!" while sawing off someone's head or burning them alive...

Agreed they are wack jobs and wack jobs do not follow traditional ways but many religions use that to funnel hate, just look at the Chrisitians or Catholics etc, they all use their word to hate others, (not all do, some are actual good relgious people) its really a sad world, I have to agree with Elton that Religious is responsible for all the wars today, hes a smart man

crosvs 11-24-2006 06:37 PM

sorta raises my biggest issue with religion: i find that the MOST religious people tend to be the most immoral, using religion as justification for everything they do; conversely some of the best human beings i know don't follow any religion -- some of them don't even believe in any form of divine being whatsoever.

Eric5273 11-25-2006 05:19 PM

They are not "wack jobs". If a single person or small group does this sort of thing in peaceful times, you can accuse them of being a "wack job". When the majority of the people in a society are running around doing this sort of thing, there is something greater wrong with the picture, and I doubt mental illness has anything to do with it.

Here is the most disturbing part (in bold):

Chicago Sun-Times: 6 Sunnis Burned Alive in Revenge

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Revenge-seeking Shiite militiamen seized six Sunnis as they left Friday prayers, drenched them with kerosene and burned them alive, and Iraqi soldiers did nothing to stop the attack, police and witnesses said.

The fiery slayings in the mainly Sunni neighborhood of Hurriyah were a dramatic escalation of the brutality coursing through the Iraqi capital a day after suspected Sunni insurgents killed 215 people in Baghdad's main Shiite district with a combination of bombs and mortars.

The attacks culminated Baghdad's deadliest week of sectarian fighting since the war began in 2003.

Police Capt. Jamil Hussein said Iraqi soldiers at a nearby army post failed to intervene in the burnings of Sunnis by suspected members of the Shiite Mahdi Army militia, or in subsequent attacks that torched four Sunni mosques and killed at least 19 other Sunnis, including women and children, in the same northwest Baghdad area.

I honestly believe there is no way that the country of Iraq will stay one country for long regardless of what is done. There really needs to be 3 seperate countries here. That is the way it should have been a long time ago.

As the old saying goes, "democracy is when 2 wolves and a sheep vote on what to have for dinner". That is the only kind of democracy that will ever exist in Iraq.

Aimster 11-25-2006 05:24 PM

It's a common saying in those countries.

People say Allah Akbar almost on a daily basis. They are told it products them, gives them strength, etc, etc.

These people who are killing innocent people in Iraq are part of a gang of animals. If you talk to any gang member in the U.S they will probably be praising the Lord/Jesus and then afterwards go and do something stupid.

& Iraq is screwed up for life. There is no fixing it. If you give Iraq separate countries then Turkey (NATO country) and Iran will be doing some invading of the Kurds.

i have a question, not to argue, but literally because i do not know and would like to learn:

when someone gets mad at me, i don't immediately retaliate. i take a step back and say "woah, i wonder what i did to upset that person so much?!"

my point is: i'm wondering why these terrorists are so pissed off at america? i mean ... something about our foreign policies over there must REALLY be upsetting them for them to resort to such extremes.

i'm not very well-read politically, and have only a vague, marginal understanding that america HAS infiltrated many foreign countries -- south american, middle eastern, etc. -- during the past century and such infiltration has generally upset the locals. i also know that such infiltration has had profoundly negative impact on those countries' economies to the benefit of american corporations. but that's about all i know.

anyway, i'm therefore assuming that this is the root of such anger perhaps?

once again: i'm not writing this to argue or state a particular point of view. i just. don't. know. and i would like to learn.

P.S. to return to the original point at issue in this thread, i still maintain that most (all?) religious extremists are "NUTS" be default. The very word "extreme" or even the word "fan" -- from "fanatic" -- implies an irrational craze. Consider the hardcore Christian Scientists. I was raised with the religion, but I can assure you, my parents and I will certainly see a doctor if we need to!! But those hard-core followers would let their children DIE before taking them to a needed doctor's visit. And our freakin legal system defends them on the basis of "freedom of religion" lol. Gimme a break. *sigh*

Why not arm both sides in Iraq and let them kill each other?

That is exactly what is being done.

In case you haven't noticed, most of the reports of these various attacks in the American media over the last year make mention of the fact that the attackers were "wearing Iraqi police uniforms", or were "wearing Iraqi military uniforms", as if to suggest that these unforms were stolen by the "terrorists". What propoganda...

The point is that most of these "death squads" or terrorist groups are sub-groups of the Iraqi police and/or Iraqi military. They did not steal their uniforms or their weapons. They were dressed in their regular uniforms and were using the weapons that were issued to them on the job.

This sort of violence also existed back in the 1920s-1950s back when the British were occupying Iraq. The difference is that the British never claimed to by occupying Iraq because they were "liberating" the people. The British public knew that their occupation was to secure oil resources. The common viewpoint among the British population at the time (and among most of the Western world) was that Arabs were simply savages and were incapable of governing themselves. This goes back to the old thinking of famous literature like "The White Man's Burden".

The reason the borders of Iraq were drawn the way they were was essentially to "divide and conquer". The British figured that there would be so much infighting that nobody would ever unite to fight against them and kick them out of Iraq. That indeed was the case for a few decades.
