Despite the glowing reviews for the drive, it has reliability issues and has problems with varied media. if you get one, once you find a brand of media that works, stick with it. That being said, at that price they're almost disposable if they break or become unreliable... caveat emptor.

if so, that's a nice deal

good thing I checked the price of blank double layer dvd's before I pulled the trigger on this one. $4.80 a piece or $120 for a 25 pack on amazon. Think I'll wait til the prices drop on these mofos before I move up to double layer. thanks for the heads up anyway, greggo.

I hear ya. I'm not interested in it for the "DL" capability right now. I don't currently have a DVD burner, just a CD burner. At least when the DL media comes down in price, I will have the burner to utilize it.

Really sorta clueless, obviously, but other than copying DVDs or maybe making DVDs of digitial photos, what are some things one does w/a DVD burner? What can one "put on" a DVD?
Don't beat on me; I could be your father, lol!

Jes'curious as maybe I want one in future, but not sure why I need one?! Signed, Curious...ol'UncMtr

you can still use it to burn single layer dvd+r movies. you can pick up those for less than 50 cents a disk on amazon. a good dvd burning software can compress most movies to fit on the single layer.

Also great for "backing up" files on your puter'. DVD's hold a lot more data than CD's. BTW, you couldn't be my father unless you were 13 when you had me :D

CD's will hold approximately 6-700 MB of data, DVD's can hold up to about 5GB of data. So they're great for backing up hard disks, digital photos, movies, etc etc.
