“In my view, we lost our way,” Allchin, the co-president of Microsoft’s platform and services division, wrote in an e-mail dated Jan. 7, 2004. The e-mail was presented as evidence late last week in the Iowa antitrust trial, Comes v. Microsoft.

“I think our teams lost sight of what bug-free means, what resilience means, what full scenarios mean, what security means, what performance means, how important current applications are, and really understanding what the most important problems our customers face are. I see lots of random features and some great vision, but that does not translate into great products.”

yep. and like Mr. Ford, Allchin, the co-president of Microsoft’s platform and services division, would be making a wise choice.

Macs are so much less expensive to maintain and operate that the mass appeal of a best buys 300.00 dollar computer is beginning to slip. People are storing lifes memories on computers these days. Rebuilding your crippled Windows machine every year or 2 because the wrong program hooked the kernel is very costly to businesses and in many cases impossible to overcome for home users. The Kernel protection in Vista has already been compromised so it’s only a matter of time till Vista will be in the same mess that XP is.

The thing that can help Microsoft is Vista 64 where they have the Kernel locked down like any modern OS should. Microsoft is looking at a decade before that is adopted by the industry as mainstream and during that time Apple will be penetrating the soft underbelly of the home users. Every day that goes by more consumers get fed up with the attacks that Windows suffer. I am not talking about the users that get the software to protect themselves, I am talking about the others that don’t keep up with the anti spyware, anti virus, windows updates, browser patches, java patches, firewall activation etc. We can all say people should know how to uses these things if they are going online, but we all drive cars and the majority can’t tell you how to fix them. It’s the same thing.
