Another outage last night....

Sorry gang, but our host provider experienced another problem last night. This time it was a hard drive failure, which required a complete replacement and a full reload of the files and system onto a new drive. It's likely that the posts which were made just prior to the drive failing have been lost and may need to be posted again.

By my count this is the third major outage in as many months that we've experienced on our site. Consequently, we are looking at alternatives, including potentially moving our business to another ISP.

Our apologies for any inconveniences that this may have caused.

No Sweat, Jeff...
I was hoping it was jes'a glitch instead of my old box finally going south after the fiddling and niggling I gave it yesterday, lol!

No problem Jeff, do what ya gotta do....what is their uptime rating? 3 9s? 4 9s?

No biggie, Jeff. We know you and Drex are doing a wonderful job. Keep it up, and thanks for the update.

It looks like we are back up and running. We have physically moved to a completely new server with a new IP and new DNS entries. This can sometimes take 12 to 48 hours to propogate to all of the internet routers around the globe. Hopefully it's much quicker than that for everyone.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this new server will greatly improve both the stability as well as the performance.

Thanks for your understanding and patience.

I was wondering what was going on. I'm just now able to get on. It's ok, though.. You don't need to apologize or anything. We all understand.

sigh.

good to see things are finally fixed.

now to run a triple backup just in case.

luckily, our SP is very VERY responsive.

we have been moved to the same server that hosts their main pages/account pages. hopefully, this should resolve 99% of our problems. i have to tell you that jeff and i have been a little concerned about 3 outages in the past 4 months, but one of them was out of the SP control (datawarehouse power failure). we will keep our fingers crossed and hope that this happens no longer.

thank you for your patient and understanding. i have been up intermittently all night trying to get things fixed.

thanks,

drex & jeff

Was there an outage this afternoon? I could not even ping the site.

The was an outage last night that went until about 7:00 AM Eastern this morning. Then the server went down again around 10:00 AM. At that time we decided that we had had enough and took the steps to move everything over to a new server.

You probably were trying to ping during the transition period when the DNS (domain name service) was being transfered from the old server to the new one, which is why it didn't resolve to the site.
