INTEL inside for Apple Computer!!
Wow....everything has come full circle. Apple announced that they are going to abandon IBM power pc chips in favor for Intel chips.
Apparently, Steve Jobs designed OS X to also run Intel chips and have been planning this for the past 5 years. Unfortunatley, the IBM/Motorola can't keep up with Intel in terms of power and speed and price especially CPUs for laptops. Also, now that laptop sales are starting to surpass desktop, having a CPU that doesn't generate as much heat and uses less battery power, etc. is very important. Intel has IBM/Motorola beat in that department. So this sounds like a "win-win" situation for Mac users. Now, their future Macs (as early as 2006) will have Intel chips that will run OS X and most likely have much better Windows emulator (heck they could make a dual-boot OS X/Windows system). Apple ditching PowerPC chips for Intel!! |
And by going with this architecture it may also give them an alternate source such as AMD. AMD's chips seem to be giving Intel a run for their money of late.

LOL.. welcome to yesterday! :bustingup

Yeah, knew about it yesterday, but X5World was down. Did someone else post on this subject @ X5 World already? :dunno:

This is very good news, now only if OS X could run on a PC Apple might be on to something!

This rumor was posted on The Inquirer about a week ago. :dunno:
|
And now Steve Jobs made it official. :p

Apple should ditch the computer business. Going with Intel CPUs is like Rambus admitting RDRAM was bad. Apple should just focus on their music devices and music services. And maybe LCDs. Other than that, I think they are quite toasted. |

The fact that Macintosh has a Unix heart is nice too; I've been programming Unix systems probably longer than some of you have been alive ;) |
