Do I have USB 2.0 ?
Probably a stupid question, but how can I tell if my 8mo. old Dell PC has USB 2.0? Dell specs. don't seem to explain this. If I have USB 1.1, I will assume that I can just buy a USB 2.0 card?
EDIT I just found this in the documentation: USB Controller Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D2 USB Controller Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D4 USB Controller Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24DE USB Controller Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller Thanks in advance! |
that's 2.0... you're all set.

An 8 month old computer most definately should have USB 2.0. One quick way to verify is to plug a 2.0 device into the USB slot and if the slot is 1.1 then it will stilll work but Windows will give you a message that a 2.0 device is plugged into a 1.1 port and could run faster if plugged into a 2.0 port.
Adding USB 2.0 is as simple as plugging in another card into the computer, and they are very cheap. |

you posted the spec on the controller. and an 8 month old Dell wouldn't have 1.0, intel motherboards have been 2.0 for awhile.... (and I'm the Director of IT Infrastructure at my company, if I don't know, I should turn in my ID badge and blackberry/nextel! :)) |
Gresch is right. My 2-year old Dell laptop has USB 2.0.
Greg, welcome to the 21st century! Quote:
