Problems with the PS3...
 

I got a PS3 and a Wii this weekend and I have had some problems that it seems hit and miss.

I am getting very slow downloads on the Sony Store. People have the same problem. I have Comcast at about 54.0 mbps and for some reason its taking over 2 hours to download a demo. I'm scared to have to pay Nintento for one of their games and have to wait forever.

I have also had problems with the HDMI cables. Here's a link to others about the HDMI issues. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXefPf4m8Vo Basically it flashes in and out. I think it is doing this b/c the PS3 can display different games in different picture quality: 480, 720 and 1080.

I was wondering if members on here had the same problems?

54 Mbps ??? I don't know about the PS3. How much is that a month?

The flash is the picture changing to different resoutions...depending on the television that will happen if the scenes and game play are in different resloutions...most HDTVs dont have this issue but some current and many older HD sets do this because they don't have the ability to change resloutions on the fly...I had a similar problem with my PS2 when GT4 came out I havent looked in the menu array on my PS3 but there should be a setting to put the unit into a fixed resloution instead of dynamic just go in there and set it to 770p or whatever you want it to be set at that way the picture will not flip

I think hes looking at the Wireless connection speed. Fastest Comcast goes currently is 8Mbps downstream.

I would change out the PS3 if I was you Ben. Mine flashes when I go between BlueRay movies and the console but it laways locks down. Slow download speeds do happen I have had fast, medium and slow dependant upon time of day.

Unless Ben has an OC-1 going into his house. :rofl:

Hmm maybe plenty of glass around Denver but with current prices he should opt up for an OC-3 costs less now than OC-1.

Better if he went OC-192, dual redundancy through a GSR 12K.

I can build him one. Got a few spare parts lying around the assembly here. Was in the business of manufacturing and assembling heatsinks, fans, shelving, etc. for nortel -www.daitogroup.com-. Everything but the boards themselves.

Anyways, back on topic. the PS3 has many different display settings. I set my ps3 at home to display at 1080i on component to play COD3, max resolution for the game is 1080i, as well as my TV. (max resolution for the game is displayed on the retail box) I then took it to a buddies house to play there on his old CRT TV, max resolution is standard VGA(620x480), so I plugged in my composite cable to the PS3 then to the TV, started her up... and nothing. It wouldn't display a thing since I had left the settings at component and max res. at 1080i, and the signal was only being output for component and not composite.

The moral of my story is that the PS3 needs to be properly setup for the game and the TV you will be using. For example, after having setup my PS3 to display at 1080i for COD3, I popped in Resistance and instantly got a warning screen telling me that the max res. for that game is 720p and that i might experience display problems during gameplay if left the PS3 at that setting.

Other than that and the lack of games this system is pretty damn awesome. No problems with it on my end.

Looks like the dude from youtube has a problem with his TV and the PS3 communicating. HDCP compatability?

The slow download issue is with Sony's PS3 demo game server...

Does anyone elses PS3 freeze up? I'm going to exchange mine today.

nup my ps3 works fine. the download is slow but i think that has more to do with the server. there are been occasional lag now and then but that was only during a part of the game that 50 things were blowing up.. smoke.. and all that
