Cingular - Los Angeles Part I

I have a two part thread. This is part (I)

Does anybody have any comments about cingular service in Los Angeles. As much as I would like to wait for the Iphone to test the GSM, I really need an email, surf, type phone sooner than July.

I used to have AT&T GSM service and it was awful. I had the Sony Ericcson P800 and I loved the phone but could not decent connectivity. That was 4 years ago. With the merger AT&T and Cingular, has the GSM service gotten any better?

I especially need to have signal stregnth in the Hollywood Hills where I live.

Any thoughts??

(Part II of my question will come in another thread..)

Hey B-Line 2 things. Since you live in hollywood can you hook me up with a part in a movie? ( Jezz kiddin)

On the phone thing from what I know Verizon generally may the thing in the states. T-mobile? Hated it! but my favorite has always been Nextel. Direct connect to Brazil in a fraction of a second? Unbeliavable. But if i had to go GSM it would be cingular with a tri-mode phone. But hey you get 30 days to try em out. They don't cut the mustard take em back.

LoL, I will do my best to give all X5world members that want one, an audition :).. Although I am currently trying to get a TV show off the ground, I have movie scripts in development but they are on the back burner. Give me a couple years and I'll hope to give everyone a role :)

-- As far as Nextel, Sprint, etc. I am only trying to decide between Verizon and Cingular. This is because the Iphone will be Cingular GSM. So I just need something for the six months while I'm waiting. I'm not sure if during the six months I am better off with Verizon or trying Cingular now with the Pearl.

Verizon has worked best for me in So Cal! I used to have Cingular and it was always a problem. I see customers all over the state and have had no issues. Go to wirefly.com for great deals but make sure to abide by the rebate requirements and you won't have a problem.

verizon has the best reception...and those cingular ads... don't believe them

fewest dropped calls??? only when the calls can go through!!!!ouch:

I can't speak for CA, but here in NY Verizon was always the best until very recently. Cingular has improved greatly over the past 2 years since the merger, and I now find it better than Verizon.

Don't know about CA, but don't get T-Mobile. It works perfectly everywhere BUT the US.

cingular is somewhat poor in Socal. Haven't quite figured out why as I get very strong signal. From my experience though, it does however work very well in the bay area, denver, Salt lake City, Boston, NY, AZ, TX and Chicago. Depends on where you travel, Cingular is better than verizon especially in many of the cities in the midwest.

B, just over the past year in Dallas, Cingular went from crap to unbelievable. I also changed to a Razr. I can recieve calls in a
lead lined radiology lab. Email is slow though.
Verizon servive here was terrible last summer with a Razr. Also it was insulting how there
office treated you. Might want to check with
Cingular, if they are building towers there
like they are here, you might be better off
with them.
Oh, I'll try an audition also....

I have Cingular now for three months. I used T-Mobile for 8 years. I used to have so many deadspots around my daily commute including work and school aswell as my house. Since the switch I have had no problems with reception at all at all the spots that I used to have problems with. We didn't get Cingular until about a year ago in my area and wished they had it earlier.

PROS:
Great network with excellent reception.
Customer service is better than T-Mobiles.
Rollover minutes
Premier membership discount

CONS:
I have had handset issues with my phone W810 and got it replaced but still have the same exact problems. Read on cnet that it was a common problem with this handset.
Get charged for calling voicemail.
I have had problems with my Family Talk plan basically technical issues involving names on the caller ID. It took about 6 seperate calls to get it right.

That's all I can think of right now.
