I have an easy solution to the inheritance/death tax. There should be no inheritance. When people die, their assets go back to the state, get auctioned off, etc. The amount of money this would raise would allow the government lower taxes quite a bit.

In the "land of opportunity", everyone should start with an equal chance.

Off topic, and I have no opinion since I pay Canadian and other taxes but not US taxes, but what is ridiculous is that there are now 88 posts on this forum with the word ridiculous spelt ridiculously incorrectly. If you are describing an absurd communist, I suppose he would be rediculous.

Distribution of wealth, didn't Comrade Stalin advocate that? ;)

Nope, this is different. You are not taking away anything from anyone. That person is dead. You just aren't giving free gifts to some while nothing to others. Everyone starts on an equal playing field.

And as I said, this would allow for lower taxes for those who are alive, thus actually lowering how much money you are taking from people.

Sounds like the kind of thing where the government could decide to keep the inheritance money and keep raising taxes at the same time to make even more money!.

Kinda like my fuel prices argument! If fuel companies are getting more oil, why should they lower consumer prices when they can simply pocket the profit and spend it on things that aren't in the common citizen's interest?

The government doesn't "make money". If that were the case, we would have a budget surplus. Stoping the corruption and corporate welfare that has caused spending to get out of hand is another issue entirely and has no relation to this issue.

WHAT? Here comes the communist influence again...... :loco:

What you earn should go to the government, yeah.....how about no.

I am setting up a brokrage account in the islands next year get my money offshore where it can be invested tax free and actually grow instead of taking half of it in capital gains each damn year...I have no time for the crap our government spends my money on so I made a new years resloution for them to get less of it...a lot less.

As for Eric's typically asinine ideas all you will do is take potential inheratance away from those that are not bright enough to protect thier assets...getting around that type of thing wouldn't be that difficult...plus without longstanding buisinesses passed down through generations, Ford, GM, Browning, Springfield, Motorola, and many other companies would have never got past step one because it would go back to the masses and then flounder because without the innovator pushing the company there would be no one to keep it going...

Budget surplus or not they will still find a way to abuse the system.

Unless it is a perfect Neo-Communist government where the sun is shining, the birds are singing, everyone is paid fairly and taxes and government greed is non existent!

But we all know that won't happen!, and even if it dose its only a matter of time before another Stalin pops up and takes control!.
