Question about the media
Sad when anyone dies but someone please tell me why the Anna Nicole Smith story is so news worthy. I mean come on why is this the lead story in the news media. Seems to me this is really not that important. It may be interesting because it's a soap opera? Not worth much as far as news IMHO. When did we decided that this woman needs to be mentioned in the news all the time. I mean Wolfe Blitzer is even in on the act. Whew.................
Again this is not a slam on Anna Nicole Smith. It's a question about the media. I guess the news media created her with sound bites. They destroyed her with sound bites. Now their preaching eulogy in sound bites. |
If you were a "media" owner, which story would you put at the top today? My take is that the top story is what the "media" feels will attract the most attention - that's the #1 criteria - not what's most important - that doesn't make money.

her life was a trainwreck, and with reality tv being the norm these days, the media just stayed true to form... no shocks here.

Without a doubt it would not be the Anna Nicole Smith story. My whole contention is what we receive from MOST of the media is not news but sound bites. For example just take Anna Nicole Smith. What was her real name? That's the problem. If she was really news and was reported in any depth that report would have been over long ago. I remember when news was reported in depth and people could depend on it for a reasonable amount of facts. Gone is the provision of factual news coverage. Now replaced with greed.

Because she's hot!
Oh, wait, I meant to say, "...was crazy." In all seriousness, it's because there isn't anything else interesting to report. Slow news day. You could probably hear the editors and news directors cheer when they got word. |
First, stop thinking of the media as an organism that gives a damn about anything but making money and then you'll know why she was today's lead story.
|
Well that's one excuse. In reality i believe they wouldn't know a news story if it bit them in the butt.

Media nowadays is about revenue generation, not "news." |

Oh, and BTW, there is one part of the media that is not about "revenue generation". And that is PBS & NPR. |
