That REMOVING/STRIPPING Wallpaper from walls totally SUCKS!!!!!

But this is the kitchen...and it has to look good ;) One of the last rooms in the house to do! Hooray! I'll have a life again soon! :thumbup:

Yea, I remember helping out to remove the wallpaper from our powder room. What made it worse was it was 2 layers..........ugh disgusting.

Did you use any type of wallpaper stripper or a steamer? Or did you just do the scrapping method?

I'm using the Zinnser DIF stuff....works great. I strip the top layer first, then use a scoring tool to score the backing, then apply DIF twice in 15 min intervals...and then scrape...and scrape...and scrape...and oh did I mention scraping?? :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Two walls took me 5 hours yesterday...but they are pretty darn free from any type of wallpaper paste. That stuff just lingers on your walls. :confused:

So here you go, how to remove wallpaper! FUN FUN

Picture #1 shows what the old wallpaper looked like. It was't too bad as far as wallpaper goes, rather countryish, but out with it already! :D You can also see my FABULOUS 40 yr old linoleum floor!!! That is getting ripped up next ;)

Picture #2 shows what happens after you peel the first (decorative) layer off the wall. It leaves you wish a paper/adhesive backing. Using a paint roller, you 'roll on' the adhesive remover. I'm using Zinnser DIF, great stuff and worked very well for me. Mind you this wallpaper isn't 40 years old, so I might have had to do something difference otherwise.

Pictures #3, #4, #5, #6, and #7 shows the messy step :) SCRAPING!!! You have to scrape the stuff off. It never comes off in full chunks, so you have to just scrape the heck out of it. Whats left behind is an adhesive sticky mess that you must go BACK OVER with the roller and scrap the adhesive off. This could take 4 or 5 passes to get the adhesive fully removed. [NOTE: You might see the beaters Yellow Ion bulbs in pic #7 ;)]

Picture #8 shows what the floor looks like after a few hours of scraping :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Picture #9 shows the next wall waiting to be scraped. FUN FUN

Picture #10 shows the paste you have to scrape off AFTER you remove the adhesive backing....wallpaper adhesive is very relentless, it doesn't want to go away :)

Picture #11 is a finished wall I did yesterday. Note the SLIME GREEN the original owner had. She lives there 36 years, and I'm betting thats the original color!!! Also notice the beige that was underneath the wallpaper, as well as the 'pink' around the phone hanging on the wall which I believe is the original 1967 color.
