Why are US troops in charge of this?

In Iraq there is currently a huge gas shortage as a result of the war and following insurgency. Iraqi citizens have begun bringing jugs to gas stations to fill up and sell, illegally, on the black market. This US soldier is responsible for collecting the jugs and destroying them. Please explain to me how this is a US military responsibility? Where is Iraq's police force?????????? Total WASTE OF TIME.

:iagree: 100%, that's ridiculous

I hope you are not surprised. There are tens of thousands of US soldiers whose main job is to guard the oil wells and pipelines. You didn't think they were really there to bring democracy or find WMDs, did you?? :nanana:

Um, this isn't guarding oil wells or pipelines which insurgents ROUTINELY blow up. This is helping curb the black market of gasoline in Iraq.

no no no, Irak was invaded to free the Iraki people of a bad, bad tyrant that posed an immediate threat to the security of the US, plotted 9/11 (actually, he piloted one of the planes that hit WTC, bailed out on a parachute just before impact), harboured all of Al-Qaeda, was buddy with North Korea, hated Americans, was an imminent threat to the security of the US (did I already mention that?) smelled bad, as well as to bring democracy and find all them WMD's. Right?

I don't know the purpose behind this. ( you know you gotta be there to know the real deal). But on the surface:

Ahh yes another very important step in making the locals have a warm fuzzy feeling.

I hate to repeat one of the recent "talking points" of the Democratic party, since I rarely agree with them, but...

They are trying to find a military solution to a political problem. There is no military solution to this problem.

I don't pretend to know a lot about the Iraq issue. But from all I’ve heard it's not a political, or military problem. It's a religious issue. If that's the case there's an easy exit and one that will serve everyone’s interest. Simply put: we the infidels respect Muslims and their need to solve their own person and religious conflicts. That being the case we respectively recluse ourselves from the conflict and wish you the best in solving it. If you need help in satisfying your domestic issues we can help if you humbly request it.
